Title: Rogue 1
Post by: GM Craig on December 13, 2016, 12:20:45 PM
I'm so excited I can barely stand it...

I can't go see it on the 15th as I have a mess dinner that night. But the kids and I have our tickets for 3:40 on the 16th.

If anyone posts spoilers, I will find you, and I will end you. :)

Connie actually wants to go see this one too.  We're thinking about going this weekend but by the time we decide, tickets will probably be sold out if they aren't already.

Tix are still available.  I just picked mine up after work today at St. Vital Center for the Saturday 7:30 PM show (3D).  Pew pew!

Yeah, there was a particular battle in that movie that felt all too familiar.   ;D

Spoilers! Spoilers! He posted spoilers! End him, Craig.  >:D

Seriously though, maybe best Star Wars Movie ever, love the droid.  Man they should have taken these things away from Lucas years ago...just think what the prequels could have been.

Hayden Christensen can act...just not with a Lucas script or direction.

Someone shoulda told Hayden that there is no "try" . . . there is only "do".   ;D

Still, that final battle scene between him and Ewan . . . damn!

Connie worked Saturday and Sunday so we didn't make it. Now it'll probably be after Christmas before we make it.

But don't bother making a private thread on my account if that's what you're thinking.

Definitely not for younger kids. My 10-year old was fine, but any younger and it might be a little much.

Connie and I saw it last night. We both enjoyed it. I would have liked to see more filler between when Jyn was rescued by Saw and the prison break but I know that would have added some serious time to the movie.

And what kind of blaster is Baze using, I wonder what Trax could do with one of those...

Looked like a light repeater to me, only with the power supply on a backpack.

That's kind of what I was thinking but it looked almost like an ammo belt connecting the blaster to the pack on his back.

Trax does need to get his hands on a repeater rifle some day soon. Especially if he'll have to start dealing with more Jedi.

So let me get this straight, now that I've finally seen the damned thing. I gave up and took the boys and they actually loved it but anyway!

So, Craig *didn't* write the story? Okay okay so he didn't "write" it, just ghosted it. I get it. Ghost writers don't really get their name on things. It's okay, we know who really did it.

It was good, I liked it. Some campy shit in it but I've come to expect that out of every SW movie :P (seriously why can no one get Vader's writing right like the originals?)

Props to Alan T, that was good droiding. Also Leia? Too soon :(

Wayne Pygram reprising Tarkin would have still been better than cgi. And not a 3 second prequel cameo.

Not gonna nitpick the movie. Overall loved the story. Very nice tie-ins. Was good to see SW in a more adult, gritty lens on screen. And not just on this forum :D

Oh and my 6yo asked a million questions during the entire thing. So he was paying attention. It wasn't even animated! I couldn't get him to quiet down for bed he was so excited. Although, he did expect Kylo Ren to just suddenly appear so I do question some of his understanding :P

My favourite part was the TPK (I know, you're shocked...) But not just because everyone died. It is that every death was meaningful. I thought it was very realistic of the early rebellion, where victories could be had but at great cost. The early rebellion was all about sacrifice for something greater.

And even though I know how it ended, my heart was racing when Vader was ripping through those Alliance troopers trying to get the disk with the plans on it. That trooper realizing his fate, and going from "Help us!" to "Take it! Take it!" was pretty moving.

I also liked how Alliance Intelligence got their hands dirty. Spying is not a "clean and tidy" business. It is necessary, and important. But it is not bloodless. Now, I don't expect Alliance Intelligence to be like a LeCarre novel (spoilers: every "good guy" either dies or fails in some way that is shocking for it's thoroughness). But one of the things that gets sacrificed for the greater good can be moral high ground. I thought the movie dealt with that well.

It also captured well how fractured and tentative the early rebellion was.

Good thing they have Trax. :)

And there's a good reason for Trax not to be a good guy...just in case.  Although that's going to be extra difficult with Maris around, now even he has to behave if he and Nim are to help guide her away from the dark side.  Michelle, if Trax dies because he's being good I'm putting the full blame on you. :P

That scene with Vader was good, I agree.

Ken if Nim dies because Trax is being bad, you're the one going to he'll :P

Anyway, yeah, I know. Bringing her has put us in a very precarious position. At the end of the day Nim is really hoping/praying that she did the right thing. This'll be frustrating and interesting to say the least.
