Title: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: GM Craig on March 10, 2014, 08:07:33 AM
[OOC: Taking some liberties here.]

With the Bridge and Engineering secured, you own the ship. Mariah, working from the main computer, gets the rest of the crew isolated easily. Internal security measures incapacitate most of them, and the rest can stay locked up while you execute the next phase of the plan.

With the ship secure, your skeleton crew takes up their stations and runs through preliminary checks. When everything comes back green, Jex takes command from the bridge. Geneva and Mariah are pressed into service on the technical front, and Collan is working in the medical bay with MA Ofella treating wounded from both sides of the conflict. Your troops have been assigned security to discourage the surviving crew from any thrilling heroics, but it is a task that does not require much supervision. And since Jexian expressly forbade Trax conducting any interrogation of the COMPNOR captain. With little else to do, Trax and Niil head down to the medical bay and check on the young girl from the bridge.

Ofella spots you as you come in, and nods. "She's hurt bad, but if she can rest a week or so, she'll pull through."

You lend a hand in the medical bay, until the manoeuvre warning sounds and the ship enters hyperspace.

Minutes later, you exit hyperspace. There are several tense moments while a brief battle rages outside, but the element of surprise is on your side, and about 5 minutes after dropping out of hyperspace, word comes down that the prison ship has been disabled. A cheer goes through your crew. Your part in all this is done, it's up to the cleanup-crew from here.

Then, perhaps an hour later, Collan, Nill and Trax and summoned to the bridge. It sounds urgent.

When you arrive, Jex is speaking into a comlink. "...hold up, do not advance! Keep them bottled up, but do not engage!"

Jex then turns to you. "We have a problem.

"We are encountering stronger than expected resistance on board the prison ship. The cleanup crew has encountered an Imperial Guard. If there is one, there's bound to be others. I need you and one team to head over to the prison ship and find out what is going on. Let the regulars handle the bulk of the mop-up, but if there are Imperial Guards on that ship, I need to know how many and why they are there. Take one team with you, mix and match if you want, but I need one team here for security. You can take Mariah of Geneve if you want, but Geneva might have insight into what is going on. We've got wounded over there, and some of the prisoners are in a bad way, so take Collan here with you."

Collan said, "Imperial Guard? There has to be someone important then. We'll need a slicer to pull a ship's log for sure. Let me grab my kit and i'll be ready."

Post by: Trax on March 10, 2014, 10:43:57 AM
Trax gave an audible groan.  He was down to one modified pistol, all his heavier weapons had remained behind at HQ and now they had to take on Imperial Guards.  On the plus side, it would give him an outlet for some of his anger and frustration.  He'd been unable to get his hands on the captain and give the man a sound beating.  The spec clenched his fists tightly as he took a deep breath, letting his hands relax as he exhaled.

"Intel said the prison ship had a myriad of internal defenses.  Our first stop should be the bridge or engineering so we can see about bring those into play.  And I trust Mariah more, but Geneva might have an easier time bypassing their security.

I need to get my hands on a backup weapon first."

[OOC: I'm guessing it's unlikely that there would be any heavy blaster pistols laying around so either an assault rifle or blaster rifle (preferably the former) would be his next choice(s).]
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: GM Craig on March 10, 2014, 10:59:26 AM
[OOC: No rifles, buy you can scrounge up a heavy blaster pistol.]

Jex shakes his head. "The defences are all controlled from the various guard posts, precisely to prevent someone gaining the bridge and controlling the ship. In fact the bridge crew separated not long after they realized what was going on. The bridge section is disabled and secured, but the prison section is still viable and defended. Once we control a guard post, we control an entire prison bay. We had one bay secured already and were working on the next one when we received a report about a red-armoured stormtrooper."

Niil's guts felt as if someone dumped a bucket of slush inside them, and he checked a sigh of resignation.  Red troopers.  Again.  Exce-frakking-lent.  "Trax, let's get our team together and lock this drek down before it gets worse.  Likely we've got some big honcho prisoner on board to merit Imperial Guards."

OOC:  Yup, take Geneva.  Should we take the best of Aurek and Besh for this?
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: Trax on March 10, 2014, 12:03:51 PM
Great, not only would they have to fight elite storm troopers in who knows how many bays, they'd have to fight internal defenses at the same time.  And the bigger problem, if there were Imperial Guards, might there also be a dark jedi on board.  He also wondered if they weren't just there for a prisoner, had the imperials been prepared for a possible rebel assault?

"Do we have any gas weapons or any other non-standard weaponry?  Last time we met Imperial Guards we also met a dark jedi.  Blasters and grenades might not get the job done."

"About a dozen stun grenades. With rebreathers, and some good reflexes, you should be able to avoid some of the internal defences."

"I was actually thinking more about what we'd need against a dark jedi but I guess we'll have to make due with what we've got.

Alright, we'll need the best guns and best throwing arms we can have, two each, and a kothe or two in case things get too up close and personal should do it."

[ooc: this is where Nick Tarwin woulda been really useful ;)]

Collan swallowed. He could shoot, throw a decent punch, and do some battle field medicine but going up against imperial guards...he was nowhere close to that good.

"I guess I'm along for the ride," he said, "My skills will be more useful as a medic than a fighter."

Trax looked at Collan.

"I get the feeling we'll be keeping you plenty busy playing medic.  Bring lots of medpacks and stims."

[OOC: Any objections if Trax brings the girls vibroblade along?  Between that and his vibroknife, at least he's got something if it comes down to melee.]
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: GM Craig on March 10, 2014, 02:54:49 PM
[OOC: Sure, just keep in mind a vibroblade won't be much use against a lightsabre.]

Jexian nods. "If there's nothing else, the shuttle leaves in 5 minutes. It's your show, Niil. Don't get carried away."
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: Niil Spaar on March 10, 2014, 03:45:35 PM
Niil raised in eyebrow in mock surprise.  "Now where would the fun be in that, sir?"  Turning to the others, he said, "You heard the el-tee.  We're looking at Imperial Guard for opposition, and they're about as pleasant as Krayt dragons, but they die like anyone else if you coordinate your fire and use cover."  Niil hesitated, then added, "If - and I repeat if - you see any bad guy or girl waving around a lightsaber, watch your collective asses, 'cause  those blades will cut through anything.  Jedi have been known to deflect blaster bolts with those blades.  If you need to bring down a Dark Jedi, same rule as when dealing with an Imperial guard - except you better be shooting more frequently and a lot faster.  Again, that's if we meet up with one, so keep frosty."

"Any questions?  If not, let's haul ass.  We have a shuttle waiting."

OOC:  Assuming our strike team is with us.  If not, I'll save the pep talk for once we get in the shuttle.

Collan nodded, "Yeah...I get that feeling too," he replied to Trax, "I'll bring plenty of everything."

[ooc: take a full medical loadout for a medic...plus weapons. I'll scrounge the current medbay for supplies if need be]
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: GM Craig on March 11, 2014, 11:16:23 AM
[OOC: The medical bay has a good supply of medical equipment - medpacks and stims would be what you're most concerned with. You can have 5 of each. Stims act to remove the effects of pain and injury without actually healing the injury.]

Loaded and equipped, your team enters the shuttle bay, and are surprised to find an older human male standing there.

He is wearing civilian clothes, and a hooded robe with the hood down. Something seems familiar about him to Trax, but he can;t place him at the moment.

He sees you, and raises his hands. "Be at peace, I am not your enemy."

Then it clicks. You have seen him before, in the Bladesea when you were working that bounty on Jeremy Wilton. You found Wilton, and the old guy was there prepared to defend him. The old guy convinced Jex and you to fake Wilton's death.

The man certainly seems non-threatening, and he has no visible weapons.

Trax's jaw almost dropped.  Not this guy again.  And Niil was even more gullible than Jex, who knows what the old guy could convince him to do.

"You again?  How the...no, I don't care how.  What happened, your friend finally run into a hunter that you couldn't persuade to let him go?"
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: Collan on March 11, 2014, 11:55:41 AM
Collan wondered why Trax was hostile to the stranger. Clearly something had transpired between them in the past. But the better was...why was he here?

"Okaaay. But how did you get here? And why are you here?"
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: GM Craig on March 11, 2014, 12:18:29 PM
The old man keeps his hands raised, and speaks in a calm tone. "Jeremy Wilton is safe and in hiding, the last I saw him." He glances at Collan, but his eyes return to Trax, probably as he seems the most aggressive. "After your assault team captured the shuttle, I stowed away on board. I had hoped it would take me to the prison ship, as I have a pressing engagement on board, and stowing away on your captured shuttle might enable me to make my appointment. When I came out of the shuttle, I found myself here instead of where I needed to be."
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: Trax on March 11, 2014, 01:45:44 PM
"Not where you needed to be?  You poor thing." Trax replied, with no small amount of sarcasm, along with a good measure of anger in his voice.  But despite still harboring some amount of frustration over what had happened the last time he ran across the old man, his anger now was solely in regards to what had transpired in the captain's office.

The presence of the old man brought forth two major issues as far as the spec could tell.  First, how the man knew about the mission to capture the shuttle in the first place, and of course how he got by the capture team and actually got on the shuttle.  It was more curiosity for him than anything but he was pretty sure Command would care a lot about that one.

And the second, who was on that ship that he wanted to 'meet'.  He knew it was an important question and one he should care more about than he did.  But at this moment it made little difference to him.  They still had to deal with whatever was going on over on the prison ship and it was an answer he could get after they'd secured it.  Letting out a sigh he rubbed his temples.

"You want a ride to your appointment, talk to him." Trax motioned to Niil, his voice suddenly sounding tired.  Turning to Niil he spoke again.

"But make it quick.  I need to shoot someone soon."  Trax started walking to the shuttle.  "And maybe a drink..." he said to himself.

Collan added, "And why do I get the feeling your appointment might be related to us?"
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II

He half nods, half cocks his head. "If it does have to do with you, it is only tangentially. Once we land, we can go our separate ways. I will not interfere with you, and I ask you not interfere with me."
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II
Post by: Niil Spaar on March 11, 2014, 03:02:48 PM
Niil's question went unanswered as Trax stalked off.  Letting out his breath in an exasperated hiss, he turned to the stranger with.  "Okay, I'd really like some answers here.  You decided to sneak on board our shuttle  - and yes, I'll ask later how the hell you managed to do that without any of us seeing you - and now you want to tag along on a vital mission with us?"  Niil cocked his head and smiled; he was somewhat amused at the man's serenity.  "I'll bite, then.  Can you give me a good reason, sir why I shouldn't just turn you over to our commander and have you locked in the brig until . . ."

Niil's voice trailed away.  Wait one malfing moment.  Jex and Trax had been on a hunt in the Bladesea during one of Niil's absences.  He didn't usually listen too intently to their bounty hunting stories since in general he despised the profession, but there was something about one of those stories that was ringing a big, bloody bell here.  Jeremy Wilton . . . and an older man in a cantina that made Trax and Jex back off without even attacking them.  What had made them backpedal?

They saw that the old man had held a cylindrical object in his hand.

Niil's eyes widened, and he took a step back.  "How in the name of the Force did you manage to stay so well-hidden for so long?"

Collan was a little lost...but Niil mentioned the Force and hiding...could it be? He waited....silently. He might know his uncle...or his father. Or at least something about them...

The old man stops for a moment, as if considering.

"My hiding, the length of it, and my reasons for doing so are irrelevant to the current situation. I am not your enemy." He pauses a moment before adding, "Trust your feelings."

He pauses to give his words additional weight.

"Allow me to accompany you to the prison ship. The troops that remain there have the means to contact the Imperial Fleet. The longer we stand here discussing this decision, the greater the danger that we will both fail to achieve our objectives."

He pauses for a moment, glancing at Trax before looking back at Niil. "Many lives hang in the balance. You must decide quickly, or the decision will be taken out of your hands."

His manner and tone remain peaceful, despite the urgency of the words. He still has his hands up and has remained still.

Collan said, "If he is right, then we need to go. Now."

Also, he desperately wanted to ask about his family, but that didn't mention.

Niil stared intently into the stranger's eyes, weighing what he had heard about him and what he had just heard from him.  Was he an Imperial spy?  No.  If he was, he was able to sneak on board the shuttle and remain undetected.  It wouldn't have taken much for him to detonate an explosive and take all of them out in one fell swoop.  Was the old man a fraud, then?  Was he using the Force to influence Niil's thoughts?  Possibly, but he didn't think so.  Something about this man that reminded him of Master Dhoresh; that pool of unflappable calm and reason.  Niil honestly didn't feel like this stranger was a threat to them.

Trust your feelings, he said.  Yes, he'd head that many times from Master Dhoresh, too.

Letting out a sigh, Niil motioned to the waiting shuttle.  "All right, let's go, then.  But sooner or later we need to sit down and talk about . . . things."

[OOC: taking a few liberties.]

He lowers his hands. "If fate allows..." is all he says.

"You may call me Ch'lana." Without another word, he climbs aboard the shuttle.

The name does not ring any bells.

In less than 2 minutes you are loaded and under way.

As you emerge from the belly of the corvette, the massive bulk of the prison ship looms in the dark. It has no visible external lights, and you can only see it as a hole in space with no stars.

Four Y-wing fighters patrol the area, and you can see the detached bridge section drifting helpless some distance away.

As you approach, you establish contact with the boarding party, and they direct you to an airlock near their position. Ch'lana shakes his head. "No, that won't do. All the airlocks are rigged with explosives. They will detonate when you attempt to dock. We need to find someplace else... bring it around to the left and bring us in close."

You pilot glances at Niil, who gives a quick, "Do it" to the pilot. The pilot looks like he is going to say something, but changes his mind, and only says, "Yes Sir."

As you come in close to the hull of the shop, Ch'lana peers out the viewport. A moment later he nods. "Yes, that will do nicely. Bring us in, right there between those two vents."

The pilot looks mildly alarmed, but does as he is told. Turning back to your team, Ch'lana calls out, "Someone stand by the emergency docking seal. When we touch down, activate it."

The voice speaks with such authority, the man to leaps to the ladder is halfway there before he pauses to question the order. He glances at Niil, who gives him a quiet nod. The trooper vanishes below.

A few seconds later there is a thump as the ship contacts the outer hull. A moment later, there is a grind and a whoosh of compressed gas as the landing claws and emergency airlock engage.

Ch'lana looks to Niil and nods towards the ladder. He speaks as you move to the entrance.

"When we get inside, you should go left. Do what you came to do." He gets to the airlock and opens it. Beneath you see only the outer hull of the ship.

"Stand back," Ch'lana says.

From within his robe he produces a silver cylinder accented with gold. You hear a *snapHISS* and a lightsabre blade springs from the handle, humming gently. It glows a brilliant blue, and light up the tight airlock. He reverses his grip on the blade and uses it to pierce the hull. Slowly, he cuts a large-ish hole in the outer hull of the prison ship. After several seconds, the hole is cut and the plating falls inward. A couple of seconds later you hear a loud clang echo from below.

Without waiting for comment, Ch'lana extinguishes the lightsabre and drops into the hole.

Almost without hesitation, Collan followed the Jedi through the hole.

As he dropped down, he asked, "If we get through this alive. Can you find me again? I have questions."

Trax felt like he'd been hit by a speeder when he watched the old man ignite a lightsaber and cut through the hull.  Now he understood why Jex backed off so quickly.  Trax had heard stories, but figured they were blown out of proportion to make them more interesting.  Now he wasn't so sure.

Only when Collan was the first to follow through did it snap the spec back to reality.

"Damn it!  The medic doesn't go first!" he said as he jumped out of his seat and went through the hole, his blasters ripped from their holsters the moment his feet touched the ground.

Niil opened his mouth to yell at Collan for his brashness, but Trax beat him to the punch.  Gritting his teeth, Niil quickly followed Trax and motioned to the rest of his team to follow.  "What the hell, Ch'lana's been right so far.  Left it is, people.  Collan, Trax is right.  Get back to the middle of the formation."

OOC:  Okay, so we take Ch'lana's advice and go left.

You find yourselves in the dark space between the outer hull and the inner hull. It is filled with cross-beams and supports, and very dark. Then you hear and see the lightsabre flash to life again, the quiet humming a backdrop to Ch'lana's words.

"This will be a quiet space. You will find yourselves in a maintenance passage, but from here you will be able to reach the central guard post for this section of the prison. There will be an armoured hatch cover, but I am sure you can get through that quickly enough and surprise them."

Ch'lana uses his sabre to cut through the bulkhead. The large metal disk falls in, but Ch'lana quickly extends his hand and the disk hovers, slowly lowering itself to the deck without much sound. Ch'lana then hops through the hole into a narrow crawlspace.

Behind you, your team is starting to make their way down.

Trax, Colland, Niil and Geneva drop down into the crawlspace beside Ch'lana. He looks at all of you and says, "Do what you came to do and depart - do not wait for me, and do not try to find me. May the Force be with you."

Then, without another word, he is gone, moving quickly away down the crawlspace.

Trax had to shake his head as he watched the old man.  Maybe the stories he'd heard weren't so far fetched after all.

Turning his attention to the mission at hand, once the two kothe made their way down Trax handed one the vibroknife and the other the vibroblade.

"You can fight over who wants which." he said to them.

"The old man may say it's a quiet space but I've got no reason to think the automated defenses wouldn't extend into here as well." he said to everyone once they were all down.

"So I'm keeping my breather handy and staying on my toes."

With that said, and without waiting for any type of orders from Niil, Trax took point and headed left.

[OOC: If it's really tight Geneva should probably go next so she only has to get by Trax to get at any security panel(s).]

Niil watched the Jedi leave.  He had countless questions on his mind, but he had to shove those aside.   Trax, as was his wont, went forward without waiting for orders, but Niil had no objections.  "Geneva, bring up Trax's six o'clock; I'll be right behind you.  Rebreathers on, people, and stay sharp."

OOC:  Follow Trax.  I'm guessing it doesn't take long to put those rebreathers on?

[ooc: sorry]

Collan fixed his rebreather in place and nodded. He had questions as well and really wanted to see if Ch'lana knew any of the answers. He forced himself to concentrate as this was a hairy if not worse than infiltrating the base where they extracted Geneva.

"Niil...I stay behind you...if Trax or Geneva or you run into trouble you'll need me."

The line of troopers and Kothe move down the passage behind you. Perhaps a minute later, you hear the hissing of gas, and it fills the crawlspace. With rebreathers on you are fine, but the gas makes exposed skin burn and itch. Not enough to cause serious problems, but it certainly is uncomfortable. It looks like the gas defences were automated, so you may well remain undetected.

As Ch'lana predicted, you arrive at an access hatch. It is mechanically sealed from the other side.

Trax gave himself a mental pat on the back when gas filled the crawl space.  Stupid old man, he thought.  It's a quiet space alright, dead quiet if you didn't have a rebreather.

"Let's try to find a panel for our slicer here first.  If that fails, then maybe we'll blow it." he replied to the medic.

Geneva rubs her hands together as she moves over to the hatch. She gives it a look, and smiles. "They never learn," she says as she pulls a small toolkit out of her belt. About 15 seconds later, the hatch clasps release with a quiet click, and she moves them back slowly one by one.

Glancing at Niil, she says, "When I pop the last latch, it'll swing open."

[OOC: any last second preparations? I also need an order of ingress. You're entering the main guard post for this prison bay, and will meet stiff opposition.]

Niil took a quick glance behind him to make sure no one was sneaking up on their six, then said, "Pop the last hatch and hug the wall, Geneva.  Everyone else, firing positions.  Get ready."  Niil tucked one of his blaster pistols away and grabbed a grenade in the other hand.

OOC:  Once the door opens - and if we see any opposition - Niil's lobbing a grenade at the enemy.  I'm guessing Trax will be in first, then me.  We'll keep Collan and Geneva in the middle of the pack so they can be protected.

Trax shifted slightly.  He was trying to decide if he wanted to go with his usual tactics of charging in with blasters firing or see about trying to drop a good number of targets from here, which would keep anyone else from getting down there quickly.

"Any guess as to how many we can expect?" he asked Geneva.

Trax was thankful the rebreather would help to cover the look of surprise that he fought to keep hidden.  They needed to rethink their entry plan.  And he was glad he asked.

"I think we should launch an opening salvo from here.  Drop a few grenades and let me line up some shots before we drop down.  We might get caught in a cross fire if we just blindly jump down."

Geneva shrugs. "Getting as many people into play as quickly as possible might let us capitalize on the surprise. If we give them time to organize and respond, we'll be in a world of hurt. They will likely have reserves they can call upon in nearby substations."

They were in for a world of hurt regardless, thought Trax.

"Pop it." he said.

[OOC: Dropping down and taking 2 shots, preferably at high priority targets if he can pick them out.  High priority starts with anyone wearing red (which will get both shots), and then anyone who looks like they might be in charge etc.]

Geneva pops the hatch and rolls back out of the way. it falls open with a loud clang. Niil sees a sea of red armour, and tosses a grenade. It goes off a moment later, and Trax is through the hatch, both blasters firing as he leaps.

He hits two of the red-armoured troopers square in the chest and they go down.

Trax lands and rolls behind a console.

There is a moment of quiet. Then blaster fire erupts from everywhere.

Geneva grabs Niil arm, her eyes wide. Over the blaster fire, she yells, "Niil! Middle of the room! They have a K-22 Detonite Charge! It's stable, but if they activate it, this whole ship will go up in about a minute! I can disarm it, but not from here!"

Niil glances at the middle of the room and there is a polygon-covered sphere there. No one is nearby it yet, but there are a dozen red-armoured stormtroopers nearby that could set it off.

[OOC: Niil (between dodges) figures there are about a dozen left.]

Niil's blood ran cold.  Even with his skill in demolitions he knew what that caharge was capable of.

Someone really, really important was on board, and the Empire did not want them escaping.

"Bring those malfing red troopers down, and quickly!  Do not hit that sphere, or we're chaff!"  Suiting words to actions, Niil brought his blasters up and opened fire.

OOC:  Target two red troopers, one shot each.  Is there any cover that we could use while working on that bomb?  If so, we'll make a mad dash for it.
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II

Niil gets winged twice while jumping down, but his armour absorbs the blasts. Geneva gets hit a little more solidly, and lands beside Niil in a bit of a heap. When he goes to help her, she waves him off, saying she'll be all right.

One other trooper jumps down, and rolls behind cover and a second trooper throws a stun grenade. It goes off, hitting three troopers. The grenade-thrower paid for the throw though, and takes a solid hit. He tumbles out of the hatchway to land with a thud on the floor.

Meanwhile, Trax is having a hard time getting a bead on troopers. There is so much fire flying and they are all behind cover. Still, Trax manages to wing one with a shot, though he doesn't look to be hurt bad.

You hear one of the troopers yell, "We're compromised! Blow it!" Another trooper breaks into a run from cover, and comes sliding in to the polygon-covered object in the middle of the room. He hunkers down. Trax and Niil both know exactly where he is, but neither of you have a clear shot.

Up in the crawlspace, Collan saw the trooper take a blaster shot to the face before he fall out into the chamber below. There is a lot of fire being directed at the hatchway. The successful grenade toss brought a little relief, but it will be momentary only.

"Shit on me!"  Niil muttered savagely, then yelled, "Suppression fire!"  With that, Niil broke out of cover and made a mad dash for the trooper crouching by the bomb.

OOC:  The second I see him, I'll feed him two blaster shots.  If that's still not enough, I'll also tackle him.

Collan desperately wanted to drop in but his orders were to not be the first in...but that detonite...and the trooper...

The conflict was strong within him...he wanted to drop in the next three...but...he was not a combatant...he was the medic on the mission.

He nodded to the next three in line to go...regretting the decision...but he'd need cover to help the trooper below.

Trax was still grumbling internally that once again he had waded into the fray, fully expecting others to follow right behind him, when he heard the words 'Blow it' and caught a glimpse of a trooper high tail it for an object in the middle of the room, and duck behind it.  Trax wasn't the brightest star in the sky but it was obvious that things were about to go very bad.

Taking only the briefest of moments to take in his surroundings the bounty hunter flew into action.

[OOC: Force point time.  Trax will move to the right as per your response in the OOC thread and then fire at the trooper trying to arm the explosives.  Taking 8 shots, first 3 - 6 a the three troopers, then 2 at the one arming the device.  If he doesn't need all 8 for that, remaining shots at any viable target(s).  If my math is right, -1D for the move and -1D for dodge, should mean every shot and the dodge roll (because the base is the same for both) should be at 7D+4.  If it's not, adjust shots/actions accordingly, I want every (planned) roll to be at no less than 7D, and want 2 shots for the guy arming the explosives.]

Things seems to slow down.

Trax leaps to his feet, running to the right, catching a blaster bolt on his shoulder as he does so. He shrugs it off. Meanwhile, Niil gets up from behind cover and takes a few strides towards the bomb. Geneva has produced some sort of hand crossbow. She pops up and fires at a guardsman taking a bead on Niil. The bolt hits and produces a small explosion, throwing the trooper back. One of the KDF troopers drops into the room, rolling to the spot Niil just vacated. Meanwhile, the guardsman at the bomb has opened a panel on the device and appears to be entering an access code.

By this time, Trax is on top of three royal guards. He levels both guns at one, presses the muzzles against the red chest plate, and fires. The guardsman falls back with two smoking holes in his chest. One of the guardsmen near Trax fires a shot, but Trax, impossibly, twists aside. The other guardsman fire a shop that skips off Trax's helmet, but the bounty hunter keeps on moving. Niil has almost reached the bomb. He brings up his gun to fire, but a pair of guards hit him in quick succession, one in the right upper chest, the other in the right shoulder. Niil collapses and skids into the bomb, clutching his shoulder in pain [stun, wounded: -2d next round, -1d every round after that until healed]. Geneva reloads her crossbow in a flash and another bolt flies, striking one of the troopers that hit Niil. The bolt appears to fire something that punctures the guard's armour. He spasms, and falls out of sight behind the console he was using as cover. The trooper trying to enter the access code appears unsuccessful, and starts to enter it again.

Another KDF trooper leaps into the room, but he catches a blaster bolt full in the chest and slumps against the wall clutching at the wound. Trax spins and unloads both guns into into the closest guardsman, and he collapses in a heap. Trax's remaining opponent draws a vibroknife and launches himself at Trax. He scores a hit on Trax's torso, but the bounty hunter shrugs it off. The guardsman at the bomb is still entering an access code, being a little more careful about it.

Another KDF trooper leaps into the room and safely rolls behind cover, as Trax whirls on the trooper at the bomb. A blaster shot hits Trax full in the chest, but he manages to shrug it off. Lining up his shot, he squeezes both triggers, and hits the guard at the bomb with both shots, square in the head. The guard's head snaps back and he falls over to the floor, unmoving.

[Actions?]

Things are a little chaotic, so I'm not giving you a map. You are facing 6 uninjured royal guards spear around the room in 50-75% cover. There are also three royal guards who are stunned but will be back in the fight in a round or two. Niil is wounded, and -2D for this round. Trax is unhurt (thanks to the Force Point doubling strength rolls to resist damage). Geneva has recovered from her stun.

You have one badly injured trooper (looks incapacitated, maybe worse) and one trooper that appears to be wounded, though you're not sure how bad. You have three other troopers in the room that are fairly healthy.

For the moment, it is a 6 on 6 fight.

Niil fought the waves of nausea and pain that threatened to engulf him.  His mad dash had been cut short by two well-placed blaster bolts, but at least Trax had dropped the bastard before he turned them all into vapor.

Now all they had to worry about were the other six malfing red-eyes - no, make that nine once the other three regained their wits - still in the game.

"Concentrate fire on single targets! Dig those damned troopers out with grenades if you have to!"  Niil quickly took aim and fired a shot at one of the troopers.

OOC:  One shot at one of the red troopers (the closest I guess).

Out of explosive danger, for the moment anyway, Trax turned his focus to the remaining guards hoping that the increased number of KDF personnel would deter anyone from making a break for the bomb.

Turning to face the one that had attacked him with the vibroknife, he raised first the unmodified blaster, and then his modified one, at pulled both triggers.

[OOC: Two shots at the trooper and then move into his cover.]

[OOC: One of the troopers that made it in was a Kothe. PM sent to Collan.]

The Kothe volunteer leaps up from behind cover, and charges the one who seems to be giving the orders. The vibroblade flashes, and scores a hit, but the armour absorbs most of the damage. Up in the crawlspace, Collan moves out of the way as the next three troopers make ready to go through the hatch. Niil, beside the bomb and heavily favouring his shoulder, takes a shot at a guardsman, but only hits the console the guardsman was using for cover. Trax levels both barrels at the remaining guardsman near him, and fires. The guardsman collapses like wet tissue, and Trax is clear.

Then another guardsman breaks from cover and makes a skidding slide into the side of the bomb, opposite Niil. He moves like he knows what he is doing, and starts to enter an access code.

A guardsman takes a shot at the Kothe, Juna, and scores a hit. The shot is not that bad, but Juna is woudned from his entry into the room and the stun slows him down further.

Corporal Aboveth, seeing the danger from the trooper by the bomb, takes a shot at him, but it pings off the bomb casing and misses. Geneva reloads her crossbow and take a shot, but it skips off the guardsman's armour. Private Rhaekoth leaps into the room, and rolls up behind the console. He takes a shot at the guardsman but misses.

The guardsman fighting Juna is trying to shake off the hit he took, and makes no effective attack.

Then one of the guardsmen who was taken out earlier by the stun grenade gets up but is still shaking off the last of the stun grenade and has no actions.

Corporal Thadric leaps into the room, but she does not roll behind cover. She stands and delivers a shot at the guardsman at the bomb, but her shot skips off the armour. Right behind her is private Severran, who lands and takes a half step to try and get a better angle. She opens fire at the guardsman by the bomb, but only hits bomb casing.

Two more of the stunned guardsmen are regaining their senses, but they have no actions this round.

Then a royal guard lines up a shot at Trax, and scores a hit. Trax takes the hit, but it disorients him a little.

Then the trooper at the bomb finishes entering his access code, and through the blaster fire and moans of the wounded, you hear three beeps. Then there is the sound of something powering up. The guardsman at the bomb holds position and readies his weapon, prepared to defend the bomb until detonation.

Only Colland and Private Jerauwren remain in the crawlspace.

Apparently the reprieve Trax had managed to buy them was even more temporary than he'd hoped.  How long did they have, could the device be disarmed, and how long would it take, were the questions that began to surface in his thoughts.  Time, if they were going to disarm the device they needed time.  Geneva was going to need time.  And she would get every second he could buy her.

"Get to bomb!" he yelled to her as he raised both his blasters and squeezed the triggers, over, and over, and over, a flurry of plasma bolts flying from the barrels.

[OOC:Another force point.  8 shots, starting with bomb guy, but then focusing on any that target Geneva on her run.  Even if they don't drop, if they're wounded/stunned so they can't take a shot at her, move to the next target.]

Collan swallowed. Reinforcements ad the bomb was going to go off.

Panic threatened but the calm voice he'd been hearing in the quiet times, when he was all alone in his head, spoke to him. It spoke of trusting the Force, like Ch'lana had spoken of the Force being with them.

For the first time, Collan tried to reach for that place of peace he'd felt a couple other times when he'd ultimately done something amazing...or crazy...in retrospect.

He reached for the flow of peace and calm he'd felt during those times, hoping that his need now could help him get there.

Collan released a breath, aimed for the guard at the bomb and fired. He shifted his aim, fired again at one of the further guards [ooc: preferably the LT or an NCO], and then finally at another far guard.

[PM sent to Collan.]

Juna gets a good whack in with his vibroblade, and the lieutenant falls to one knee before falling over. Collan, leaning out of the hatch, opens fire, shooting three times, and hitting each target. he doesn't do a lot of damage with his shots, but he certainly shakes up the Lieutenant and two other guardsmen.

Niil pushes himself up over the bomb and fires two shots into the guardmen there. Even as he pulls the trigger, the sergeant levels his own blaster ... at the control panel on the bomb. Blaster bolts rip through the air, Niil firing two to the sergeant's one. The first hit on the sergeant is minor, but the second one punches through armour and scores a hit. The sergeant grunts and falls over, but the control panel on the bomb explodes in a shower of sparks.

Simultaneously, Trax, with something like a bellowed roar, unloads a rapid series of shots, switching targets as they fall. When the smoke clears, only one guardsman is left standing, the others are either out of it completely, or recovering from wounds. Aboveth fires at the remaining trooper and puts him down.

Geneva breaks from cover with a cry, and skids to a stop beside the bomb. With a note of panic in her voice, she says, "This is going to be a lot tougher now, and I have no idea how long we have! Standard is a minute, but who knows?! Keep them busy!" She pulls out her toolkit and gets to work.

Rhaekoth, Thadric and Severran all try to bring down the last guardsman, but all their shots go wide. Then, Jerauwren squeezes in beside Collan and fires, scoring a solid hit. The last guardsman stands there for a moment before he topples over to the deck, incapacitated.

At that moment, four royal guards charge into the room, two from each corridor.

[Actions?]

The extra 4 royal guards are not listed below. The new arrivals are nicely clustered for grenade attacks to buy you time. Each of your guys have two.

Trax couldn't believe what he heard, more of them?!  Didn't they have enough of them already!

"No!" he yelled out countermanding Niil's order to move around Geneva.  "Stay on your targets or use your grenades on the newcomers!" he yelled out.

Already breathing heavily from the exertion the spec continued to pour everything he had into the battle.  Not only did they need to find a way to get the numbers under control, they had to buy Geneva the time to disarm the bomb.  If that was even possible.  But until it was either disarmed or went off he would continue to push himself to the limits of his abilities.

A lot happens in the next few seconds.

Juna hits the lieutenant with a solid hit, and the lieutenant drops to his hands and knees. Trax then pours both barrels into the lieutenant, and he drops like a sack of flour, quite dead. From up in the crawlspace, Collan takes a shot at one of the new troopers, and hits him full in the helmet. The trooper falls backwards and lies on the deck unmoving. Niil tosses a grenade at one of the passages. it goes off, and the remaining guardsman there dances in the ion blast for a moment before falling to the deck.

Trax then levels both barrels at a royal guard corporal, and he flies backwards to hit the bulkhead and slide to the deck, also quite dead.

Aboveth throws a grenade at the other passage, and hits the target. One of the guardsmen there does the electric dance and falls to the deck, while his partner staggers a bit and takes a knee. Then a second grenade goes off, thrown by Rhaekoth, and the last of the new arrivals slumps to the floor unconscious.

Then one of the guardsmen pops a head up and manages to tag Geneva int he shoulder. It is the last action the guardsman takes. Trax whirls on the trooper, and fires both guns into him. He goes down, quite dead. She grunts in pain, but the damage is superficial and she keeps working.

One of the few remaining guardsmen takes a shot at Niil that goes wide. Trax spins on him next, and both heavy blasters go off. The guardsman slumps back, alive for the moment, but not for very much longer.

Thadric takes a shot at one of the remaining guardmen, and manages to bring him down. Then Severran throws a grenade three guardssmen clustered behind cover. it goes off, and all three guardsmen slump to the deck unconscious.

Up in the crawlspace, Jerauwren takes a shot at the last guardsman. She hits, but the armour absorbs the damage. The guardsman takes a shot at Trax, but misses. Traxc whirls on him and fires again with both barrels. The trooper goes down, badly injured but still alive.

Then the blaster bolts stop. Through the smoky air, you finally have a moment to breathe. All the royal guards are down, though you can hear more booted feet coming down both passages.

[PM sent to Collan.]

Thaelith's injury is bad - Collan can't do much to heal him here, but he might be able to stabilize him. Cracking open the medkit, Collan gets to work, and in rewarded when his vital signs start to stabilize. Thaelith is still in serious condition, but Collan has bought her some time.

Trax opens up a medkit, applies some bandaging and injects an analgesic. When he is finishes, Geneva glances away from her work for a moment. "Thanks." She pops open an access hatch on top of the device and starts to poke around inside. She glances at Trax. "Automated defences!" is all she can say before her concentration is required and she -carefully- lifts someone out of the bomb casing and tosses it aside.

Your troopers take up positions around the doorways. [OOC: Open passages at the moment, though it does look like they can be closed, the doors are open]. The moment they arrive, they start taking blaster fire from down the corridor. Niil, ducking out of the way of a shot, glances down the corridor and spots something odd. Farther down, near the next chamber are the expected red-armoured stormtroopers. But marching down the corridor towards him is a humanoid figure in a long red cape, carrying a long melee weapon of some kind, and wearing a smooth red helmet.

[Actions?]

The red guy will be at Niil next round. The next batch of troopers should be near you in three rounds.

The guy coming looks something like this image:

He confirmed Thaelith was stabilized and went over to take a look at what was there...

"Crap,"  Niil whispered almost reverently.  He'd never seen this type of trooper before, but something was telling him that this yahoo made the other ones loke like pre-schoolers.  "Trax, we've got a new guy here.  He looks like big trouble!"  To his team, he said, "Bring him down."  Suiting actions to words, Niil took two shots at the newcomer.

"Disarm that thing and we'll call it even." Trax said to the slicer, a bit of playfulness in his voice.  He was acutely aware her task was far more daunting than the application of an analgesic and bandages.

Picking up his blasters he stood up, taking up a guard position above her.  That's when he heard Niil's voice and he turned to see what had the officer so concerned.  Trax quickly turned to the team at the other door.  "Get that door closed...permanently!"

He turned back to the red robed figure that was approaching.  "You picked a fine time to take a desk job Jex." he mumbled as he squeezed the grips of his blasters.  He'd pushed both himself and the pistols hard, and he hoped both they, and his body, could handle the additional abuse they were about to get put through.

[OOC: Two shots at our new friend.  If anyone takes a shot at Geneva, Trax will take the hit, use CP's for the strength roll to resist the damage as necessary.]

Juna sheathes his vibroblade while running to the south entrance, and switches to a blaster. He takes a shot at one of the approaching guardsmen, but the shot misses. Niil notices that Collan has left Thaelith, has stood up, and is walking to a nearby console. He doesn't seem to be paying any attention to the battle going on. Nill holds his shot, waiting for an opening as the Imperial Guard marches with purpose up to him. Trax, not so patient, unloads both his hand cannons at the Imperial. He hits, but the Imperial seems to absorb the damage mid-swing without even slowing down. Quicker than Niil expected, the vibrolance the Imperial is using swings, and Niil barely dodges out of the way. One of the guards farther down Niil's passage takes a shot at Aboveth, but misses. Aboveth ignores it and fires at the Imperial Guard. His shot missed.

Rhaekoth take a shot at the Imperial, but the shot goes wide - the Imperial is quick on his feet. He is then hit by a blaster bolt coming down the passage, but mostly shakes off the damage.

Meanwhile Geneva is standing, up to her elbows in bomb innards.

Down the other corridor, a guardsman takes a shot at Severran but misses. Thadric also takes a shot, but it hits bulkhead. Severran adds his own shot, and scores a glancing hit. Return fire hits Thadric, but her armour absorbed the hit. Jerauwren, having hopped down from the crawlspace, heads to the door panel and gives it a go to try and get the door closed. She doesn't have much success, but she keeps working on it.

Two more shots come down each corridor, but the shots go wide, though narrowly missing Collan.

Then Niil, still reeling from his near miss, levels his gun at the Imperial. He scores a hit, but it doesn't slow him down much. The Imperial is still swinging from the strike at Niil, and catches Aboveth, ripping armour and flesh from his right shoulder to his left hip. Aboveth staggers back and falls to the deck. Nill fires off a second shot, hitting the Imperial again, but again it barely slows him down. Still spinning, the vibrolance catches Rhaekoth in the neck. His head separates from his body, and flies through the air to land with a thud. His body stands there for a moment before flopping to it's knees and falling over.

The Imperial finishes his spin, and turns to Niil. He considers, but Niil observes the Imperial helmet turn fractionally to look over his shoulder towards the general direction of Trax and Geneva.

Collan raised his blaster and took a bead on the strangely armored guard. Once again he reached for the place of peace to feel the flow of strength, calm, and quiet. He did his best to aim for a chink in the armor and pulled the trigger.

Niil watched in horror as the red-caped trooper nearly gutted one of his troopers and decapitaed another.

Eyes narrowing in rage, Niil hissed, "You malfing Imperial bastard!  You'll fry for that!"  Snapping his blaster up, he fired at the one spot that might do some damage - the handle of the Imperial Guard's vibrolance.

Trax was quite surprised at Niil's outburst of anger.  Usually he was the one enveloped in a rage.  Although his outbursts never included coherent speech, typically only a growl or roar.  He wondered if the source of his anger was much more feral than Niil's.

Surprisingly enough, even after watching Aboveth get sliced wide open and Rhaekoth decapitated he felt little anger.  He was actually eerily calm.  Maybe between the the captain on the corvette, and all the troopers they'd fought thus far he'd finally run out.  Whatever the reason, it didn't matter.  What mattered was this imperial was truly a force to be reckoned with.  On the plus side, they'd managed to hit him a number of times.  But despite the number of hits, they'd failed to drop him.  Still, they had to be having some effect.  They just needed more punch.

"Concentrate your fire on him!" he yelled out to the rebels that remained.  Stepping out so that he was directly between Geneva and the imperial he narrowed his eyes and pulled both triggers.

[OOC: I'd like to do a combined action with the three remaining rebels that are shooting, adding the bonus to damage.  Taking 2 shots.  Use up to 2cp for the command roll.  If they guy's still standing and moves to attack Trax, use as many cps as necessary/remaining to resist damage.]

Trax calls for the three rebels to combine their fire, so they wait for his word. Collan squeezes off a shot, and scores a direct hit on the Imperial, but the armour absorbs the energy. Niil, facing likely death, digs deep and fires off a shot at the force lance itself. The blade sputters and sparks, the high-frequency vibration shorted out, at least for the moment.

Trax managed to (barely) coordinate the actions of the tree troopers with his own, and they all take careful aim. He calls out, "Ready... Aim..."

the Imperial guard takes a swing at Niil, but the electronics malfunctioning, the blade has little force, and Niil's armour absorbs the blow. His relief is short lived, as one of the guards down the passage pings a shot off his shoulder, and Niil slumps to the deck from the injury. Geneva is still up to her elbows in bomb guts, and a line of sweat beads her brow as she quietly counts down, "thirty eight... thirty seven..."

The guardsmen coming from the other corridor do not have any clear shots as their targets are out of sight. Jerauwren continues to try the door console, but still cannot get the door actuators to engage.

The other two guards take shots at Niil, but thankfully both miss.

"...FIRE!"

Trax lets go with both barrels. Simultaneously, Juna, Thadric, and Severran fire. The blaster bolts rip through the armour of the Imperial Guard, and he falls to one knee clutching at his chest. He is wounded, but not out of the fight yet.

Trax could hardly believe it.  After all that the imperial still wasn't down.  The spec was starting to wonder if it was an it, not a who, beneath that armor.  At least Niil had managed to short out the pike, but was the damage only temporary?  And there was still more than a handful of troopers to deal with.  He had to try to end this now.

With both blasters still trained on the imperial he began squeezing the triggers repeatedly, the barrels getting hotter and hotter with each pull.  Hold on, he thought, hoping the blasters could take the additional punishment.

[OOC: Here we go, last force point.  After this Trax is all but spent, he'll only have 3cps left.  This one trick pony will be all out of tricks.  10 shots, firing at the Imperial Guard until he's either out of shots, the pistols blow up, or the bastard goes down.  If by some miracle of the force he does go down and Trax has shots left, fire on the other troopers.

On the plus side, if they do overload, there won't be much power left in the packs anyway.  If he gets all 10 shots off, the modified blaster power pack will be spent, and the other one will have 5 shots left.]

Collan felt increasingly frustrated by his inabilty to actually help. His blaster was fairly ineffective against the royal guard armor. Instead, he turned his attention to the consoles again. Maybe he'd be better off working that.

He went to examining it and try to get the ship's defenses turned against the Imperials.

Juna ignore the three royal guards bearing down on him and takes a shot at the Imperial Guard. The shot goes wide. Collan, very conscious that six more royal guards will be in the room in moments, focuses on the task at hand. He manages to find the system that controls the automated defences. His fingers dance as he activates the blast doors. All over the prison bay, blast doors instantly slam shut. Suddenly the reinforcements that were bearing down on you are cut off.

Niil, feeling a little woozy from his injuries, manages to level his blaster at the kneeling Imperial Guard. He hits a seam between armour and helmet, and the guardsman flops to the ground, incapacitated.

Trax, his target suddenly down, does a quick spin to ensure there are no hostiles, and finds no threats.

In the silence that suddenly follows, the only sound is heavy breathing from the survivors, and the groans from the wounded.

Collan keeps working, an a moment later you hear the sound of muffled blaster fire as automated defence cannons outside the blast doors open up. It goes on for a few seconds before trailing off into ominous silence.

Niil checked a look of astonishment, but took Trax's preferred hand and got painfully to his feet.  "Malfing hell, I think I soiled myself," Niil muttered.  "Nice work yourself, Trax.  Thank the Force your pistols didn't go nova there!"  Looking down at the inert form of the Imperial Guard, Niil restrained the impulse to savagely kick the armored form in the head.  "I've heard about force pikes, but  . . ."  Niil glanced over at Aboveth and Waetlan.  Two troopers that followed his orders, and now one was dead.  Maybe both, if Collan couldn't stabilize them.

Nudging the Guard's body with his toe, he said, "We'll strip this bastard of his armor, and keep him heavily sedated.  If I didn't know better, I'd swear he's a Force-user.   Zalbar, Etheri, go to Collan and see if he needs any help with triage.  We might have to evac this room quickly.  We're not out of the Dune Sea yet."

With that, Niil made his way over to Geneva, making sure he stayed in her field of vision so as not to surprise her.  "Any luck?" Niil whispered.

Collan tried to pull up the environmental controls, but it turns out the controls are locked out and encrypted. But he can confirm life support is minimal within the prisoner bay, and has been for several days.

When Niil gets to Geneva, she is looking pale. She slowly and carefully pulls her hand out of the guts of the bomb, and Niil is shocked to see a metallic cuff contraption has pierced her hand with several spikes. Blood drips freely from her mangled hand. "Give me a hand getting this off?" she says shakily.

While she holds out her left hand to Niil, her right goes back in. "Maybe 25 seconds. It will be close."

Trax gets to Aboveth, who is conscious but in considerable pain and bleeding freely. The blade ripped through armour and parted flesh and bone. You help him out of his blast vest, and crack open a medkit.

Juna hobbles over to the Imperial Guard and begins stripping him of his gear. Meanwhile, Coproral Thadric asks, "What do we do with the wounded?" [OOC: You have 9 wounded red-armoured stormtroopers who still live.]

Niil winced when he saw what the bomb's defenses did to Geneva's arm.  As he reached forward to help, Thadric asked Niil about the disposition of the enemy wounded.  "If they'll live without medical attention, bind their hands behind them, and toss their helmets somewhere.  If they need medical assistance, give them enough to stabilize them and secure them as well.  If any of them give you trouble, stun them.  Just make sure no one "eases" them into the next life; yes, they're Imperial scum, but we're not like them."

Turning back to Geneva, he muttered, "Let's see what we can do here . . ."

After a few moments you find the release pin and pull it. Locks open, and you carefully ease the spikes out of Geneva's hand.

A few moments later, she carefully lifts a flashing orb out of the bomb. Once it is clear, she lets go of a breath she had been holding.

She presses it into your hand. "It'll make a little boom in about ten seconds." She then slumps down to the deck, her back to the bomb.

Trax has to help Geneva lie down, as she is rapidly losing consciousness as her windpipe closes up and the toxin starts to shut down her brain. Meanwhile, Collan cracks open the medkit and starts the analysis.

His diagnosis is confirmed - neurotoxin. A nasty one.

Trax gets to work, and blocks out everything else from his mind. With Collan helping, you guys put together an antitoxin. The medpack computer estimates 70% chance of success, but it is falling rapidly.

You get the antitoxin into her blood stream, but a moment later he heart fails. Trax jumps over her and starts pumping her chest, trying to circulate the antitoxin.

Trax is rewarded a few seconds later when the medpack computer registers a heartbeat. Then another. A couple of minutes later, her hear is beating normally, and she is breathing on her own.

A quick search of the wounded Imperials reveals they carry standard Imperial blaster pistols. Curiously, none of them have any security gear at all - no pass cards, code cylinders, or key cards. Not even on the Imperial Guard. One other item of curiosity - all the royal guards look like twins. The Imperial Guard, however, looks different.

With the room secure, you head to the control console. It takes a moment to get the controls for the access hatch to the prison to open. When the massive hatch does retract, you see a dimly lit corridor lined with cell doors. The main lights are off, and there is a palpable cold flowing through the hatch. Oxygen levels are low, but you brought rebreathers, so you should be fine. Fitting them in place, you spark up some flashlights, and head into the prison.

As you move through the prison, you find every cell you come to is open and empty. Then you come around a corner and find several automated defence turrets set up, aiming at a particular cell. It is a simple matter to disable them. There were six of the heavy, quad-blaster turrets, all pointing at the door to cell 121A.

Moving to the door, you find it locked and sealed. It takes a few minutes with a vibroblade to get it open, but you manage it.

When you shine your lights in the cell, you see an old human female, wearing a skin-tight white jumpsuit, kneeling there with her eyes closed.

Logs tell you the environmental controls had been set low for several days - the woman here should be dead. But when the light touches her, her eyes open, and she draws a breath.

She speaks, but very slowly. "You have found me at last. I have been looking forward to this meeting for some time."

She accepts Trax's help gratefully. She shrugs at Niil. "I know not his name, but I can see him. An old man now, his face worn with care, a blue sabre in his hand. If we are to stop his death, we must hurry to the central gallery."

Niil was taken aback.  "But he said, 'Do what you came to do and depart - do not wait for me, and do not try to find me.'  And now . . ."

And now what?  The man guided you past boooby-trapped airlocks and brought you in right where you had the best advantage.  If your team had tried to come in anywhere else, the Imperials would've had plenty of time to detonate that bomb.

Trust my feelings again?  Guh!

Niil rubbed his face with his hand and sighed.  "Trax?  Collan?  Yeah, I'm senior rank here, but I want your call on this - yes or no.  I'm for trying to help Ch'lana.  And miss, what's Ch'lana facing?  It took about ten of us just to bring down one Imperial Guard.  Will we be enough?"

She looks at Niil. "Of course he said not to find him. He is a knight, and a troubled man who expects to die today. He may die even with your help. But without it, his death is certain. Nevertheless, he is being led into an ambush. I want you to even the odds. Quickly, to the central gallery." From within Trax's arms, she points down a corridor. "That way."

The spec rolled his eyes at Niil's mention of being senior rank.  Like that mattered.

"I don't like this." Trax grumbled.  He wasn't even sure his blasters would still work, or for how long.

"But who am to argue, I'm just the shuttle service."

Niil cracked a wry grin.  "I sure as hell don't like this either, but seeing as there doesn't seem to be any other prisoners around . . ."  As they headed towards the central gallery, Niil unconsciously swapped the power pack on his heavy blaster pistol for a fresh charge.  "Collan, snap a fresh pack in that blaster.  Just in case."

OOC:  Sorry, I was trying to suggest that although I do technically have rank, I wasn't trying to use it as a hammer here.  That's why I gave Trax and Collan the choice.

She leads you down a series of corridors, through now open blast doors, through to a central gallery. Eventually she taps Trax on the shoulder. "You may set me down here, my strong young man."

Trax sets her down gently. She folds her legs beneath her and places her hands on her knees. "You must leave me now. Through the next door is where the ambush is going to happen. The knight is facing a Hand of the Emperor, a man with Jedi training skilled in the dark arts of the Force. This man has brought along a personal guard. The guard are waiting, hidden, to ambush the knight when the two of them enter the next chamber. There will be five of them. Ensure they do not interfere.

"This is important - if you decide to engage the Emperor's Hand, only do so once you have taken care of the personal guard. And be cautious - the Hand will try to use you against the knight if he can. I will do what I can to aid you from here. Go now, they will be here in seconds."

Trax gave a nod.  He had more questions but did they have time.  How spread out where they, where could they climb up, was it dark enough to sneak up on them, were they anything like the imperial they'd faced earlier...he was about to find out.  Deep down, the hunter had a really bad feeling about this.

"More Dark Jedi . . ."  Niil couldn't check a shudder of fear and revulsion this time.  He and Master Dhoresh had been relentlessly hounded by them, and Niil could still see them coming, lightsabers glowing a lurid red.

Letting out his breath slowly, he gave a reluctant nod and muttered, "Ready as I'll ever be.  Don't let that Dark Jedi get into your heads.  Swinging a lightsaber isn't the only thing they can do."  Niil raised his blaster, and was somewhat surprised to see his hand steady.

The old woman closes her eyes, and you get the feeling she is not with you anymore. But at the same time, you feel somehow renewed and energized, as if your recent exertions had not taken place.

[OOC: Everyone gets a temporary Force point (it expires at the end of the battle, whether you use it or not). You also all get 10 interim CP's, though you cannot spend them on skill at this time.]

You move forward, and Trax activates the door panel. The door slides down, revealing a cylindrical room several decks high. As various levels, there are steel-mesh floors suspended by large metal pillars. You can see down a dizzying height. The floors do not cover the entire area of the open space, and there is about a 5m perimeter that opens up into a fall of at least five decks. It also appears the mesh floors open like drawbridges, though all are closed at the moment.

Looking up, you can see a shadowy figure dressed in black above you hiding in the shadow of one of the pillars. A force lance can be seen glinting in the dim light.

There are two stairways that lead up and down from this point.

Off in the distance somewhere, you hear the whirr, thrum and clash of lightsabres. Flashes draw your eye two levels above you, where two figures are fighting.

[Actions?]

The room is dark, but echoey. The stairs are about 30m from your current position. There is a perimeter of about 10m outside the pillars that still has mesh floor.

Trax almost gave Niil an, are you serious, look but held it back.  Partly because he'd had the same thought, if these guys were as strong as, or their armor as good as, the imperial they'd faced in the control room blasters weren't going to be enough.  And he'd seen the kind of damage Jex could do with a vibroblade.  The only problem was he was no damn good at hitting anything with it.

He gave the fellow spec a shake of his head before turning to Collan and tapping one of his grenades.  They were going to have to hit this guy from every angle.  Drawing his pistols, he took the lead towards the stairs.

[OOC: Taking minor liberties because I wasn't clear on everyone's actions, but I wanted to move forward.]

With Trax in the lead, the three of you carefully and quietly move up the stairs. As your eyes reach the level of the floor, the black-armoured guards you can see all appear to be focusing above you. Trax moves fully up onto the floor. Niil and Collan follow. Above you, you hear the clash of sabres, then a click. Immediately above you, the mesh floor opens. You can now see clearly two levels above you to where Ch'lana and the dark jedi are fighting.

All three of you line up shots, and on Trax's signal, open fire.

You catch the guard completely unawares. Trax's hits both puncture armour, scoring hits. Niil hits as well, but the armour absorbs the hit. Collan hits twice, but likewise the armour absorbs the hit. Still, with two wounds, the guard goes down.

Above you, Ch'lana finds a break in his opponent's defences, and scores a glancing hit. The dark jedi shakes it off, and extends a hand. Immediately, the deck beneath their feet opens. Ch'lana seems unprepared, and falls clumsily, landing in a heap on your level, obviously shaken up by the unexpected fall. The dark jedi, expecting the floor to open, lands neatly in a crouch. Immediately, the uninjured four personal guards step out from their hiding places, force pikes at the ready, preparing to charge at Ch'lana.

Niil's gaze flicked to Ch'lana's bad landing, and then flicked to the guards readying to attack Ch'lana.

"No.  This time the good guys win, drek-bags."  Niil felt an eerie calm wash over him, and felt his surroundings snap into an almost slow-motion clarity.  Flicking his heavy blaster pistol up with an almost lazy gesture, he fired off nine shots in rapid succession.

In some respects this was definitely a new situation for the hunter.  He'd never seen jedi in action before.  And he had this odd feeling, some of his skills felt sharper.  The old woman said she would help, if this was her doing, he'd had a whole new appreciation for the skills of a jedi.  Not to mention a new level of concern about the dark jedi in the room.

But as much as the situation was new, it was also old.  A fire fight to the end, with the usual uncertainty of just who's end it would be.  Doing his best to make sure it wasn't his, Trax continued to pour hot plasma into the guard.

[OOC: 4 shots, starting with guard 5, and if he's down before shot 4, the remaining will be at which ever guard is closest to the old man.]

Trax fires both hand cannons at the closest trooper. One shot catches him in the throat, the next in the face. The guard's head snaps back, dragging his body with it, and he goes over the edge of the deck. He does not scream as he falls. Niil gets a good shot at the second guard, but the guard shakes it off. Collan hits the first guard, who is a little shaken up by the shot, but otherwise unhurt. Ch'lana does a flip manoeuvre and gets to his feet. The second, third and forth guards close to melee range with Ch'lana, while the Hand simply watches with an amused look on his face.

As the third guard raises his force pike to attack Ch'lana, Trax blasts the guard with both guns. The guard falls to the deck like a sack of flour, the force pike dropping from nerveless fingers.  Niil lines up a second shot at the second guard, and this time nails him in the face. The guard goes down, clutching at his ruined helmet. Collan gets a third hit on guard #3, but shakes him up again, but the guard is still very much in play. Ch'lana manages to bring his sabre up to a guard position, but he is obviously hurt. Two of the guards take swipes at Ch'lana, but he catches both their swings in his sabre. You are somewhat surprised to see the force pikes survive the parry apparently undamaged.

Niil takes his third shot, this time going for the third guard. Niil hits, lasting a hole through the armour and into the guard's chest. He curls up and falls to the deck. Collan, his target down, switches to the fourth guard. He takes his third shot, and hits, wounding the guard who is forced to take a knee.

Niil shifts targets to the remaining guard and fires. He hits the guard clean in the side of the head. His head snaps over, and the guard teeters for a moment like a cut tree before he falls to the deck.

Niil narrows his eyes, and draws a bead on the Hand and fires. Something happens then that is too quick for your eyes to follow. One moment, Niil's baster was about to hit the amused dark jedi int he chest. The next moment, the bolt winged off a pillar on the far side of the room and the Jedi had turned to face the three of you, with his red sabre at the ready. Niil takes another shot, and the Jedi catches this one fairly on his blade. The blaster bolt bounces back and hits Niil in the shoulder. Niil staggers a bit, but keeps his feet.

However, you have certainly caught the dark jedi's attention.

Niil grunted in pain as he staggered backward from the hit.  Then laughed at the absurdity of it all.  "Damn me, that's the first time I've shot myself from a distance."  Putting his back near a pillar, he said to the others, "I have a bad feeling about this.  Might want to grab the force pikes; it seems they can block lightsaber blades."

"Now you have a bad feeling?" Trax replied, unable to believe that Niil had just taken a pair of pot shots at the dark jedi.  What was almost as unbelievable was how the one shot had gone so far off target and the other had been deflected straight back at him.  And had Niil just laughed at the situation?

"You know," he spoke once again as he turned to the dark jedi.  "We could just chalk that one up to dumb things stupid people do and call it even."

Dark shadows coalesce around the dark jedi for a moment as he raises a hand towards Niil, and Niil flies through the air like he had been hit by a runaway nerf. He slams into the far wall and bounces a little, enough that he (barely) manages to catch the edge of the platform with one hand. His blaster pistol slips from his grasp, falling several decks down to the bottom of the shaft.

Ch'lana lunges forward with a stab, but the dark jedi catches the blue blade with his own red one, and parries. He then extends a hand at Collan, and the young medic collapses on the deck in indescribable agony.

Ch'lana makes another strike, but the dark jedi catches this strike as well, and levels a hand at Trax. The bounty hunter feels searing pain explode in very nerve of his body, and he slips to the deck to writhe in agony.

The dark Jedi parries a third strike by Ch'lana, and then throws his sabre. It flies in a graceful circle, striking first Collan then Trax before flying back to the hand of the dark Jedi.

Collan takes some damage from the spinning blade, but Trax mostly manages to resist it.

A few moments later the pain fades, but Collan and Trax are both shaken up from the aftermath of it, and the shadows around the dark jedi fade.

Adjusting his grip on his pistols Trax stood up, grumbling incoherently the entire time.  He was not happy to say the least, as far as he was concerned, whatever it was that had been done to him, was completely uncalled for.  But as mad as he was at the dark jedi, he was equally as mad at Niil for taking the pot shots to begin with.

Even the odds, that's what the old woman had asked them to do.  Taking out the guards had accomplished that but Niil had to take it farther.  If Niil managed to climb back on the platform he might be in for a very sound thrashing when this was all over.  But first, the dark jedi had to be dealt with.

All right old man, Trax thought.  You better be damn good at whatever it is you do.

Taking a little extra care to try and keep his own shots from being deflected like Niil's were the spec fired off a pair of shots.

[OOC: I believe getting up counts as an action so taking 2 shots puts them both at 8D+2, add 2 cp to each shot if necessary, use 2 cp to dodge anything that may come back, and if hit, use as many cp as necessary to negate the damage.

Niil tries to pull himself up, but his injuries are taking their toll and he cannot pull himself up. He is losing his grip on the platform.

Trax and Collan see Ch'lana adopt a much more aggressive stance, and the Jedi launches a powerful attack on his opponent. The dark jedi catches the attack, and ripostes with one of his own. The two fo them are moving too fast for the eye to see, and Ch'lana catches the blade with his own. Then Trax opens fire. The red sabre is too slow to block Trax's shot, and the bolt hits, but it doesn;t so much as leave a mark on the dark Jedi. His second shot likewise gets past the whirling sabre. It is a solid hit, but again it doesn't leave so much as a mark. Collan, however, notices a look of desperation creeping onto the face of the dark Jedi. The hits Trax made might not have caused any damage, but they are affecting the Jedi. Collan pulls the trigger, and scores a hit as well. This time, the Jedi feels the hit, and takes a stagger step as he clutches his arm.

Ch'lana is there faster than thought, his blue sabre spinning through the air. He catches the neck of the dark Jedi with the end of the blade, and head parts with neck. The headless body staggers there for a moment before it collapses to it's knees, and falls over.

In the sudden silence, you hear only the thrumm of  Ch'lana's activated sabre, and Niil's desperate pleas for help.

Niil caught the look on Trax's face as he hesitated before helping him back to the deck.  Just then the old jedi came up to him and said, "I suppose I thould thank you", but the man's face was completely devoid of gratitude.

Niil's own exasperation broke.  In a flat voice that betrayed his own irritation, Niil waved Ch'lana off with an impatient gesture.  "No, don't bother, sir.  I've never had much use for insincere gratitiude before, and I still don't now.  There's a prisoner that thought highly enough of your welfare, and I agreed with her sentiments.  Suffice to say that I did 'trust my feelings', sir, and I don't regret coming here to try and help.  And if that's still unacceptable, then pardon me to hell, sir.  I do find that there's things worth risking my life for."

With that, Niil went for the ladder and turned his head before descending.  "I'm going to get my blaster pistol.  When I get back, you can catch a ride back with us if you wish.  I'm sure that the nice lady that helped us to help you would like you to join us.  I would, too."

He shakes his head at Collan. "Nothing is certain," though he doesn't sound very convincing.

When Niil unloads on him, he stands there and takes it in silence. When Niil has gone Ch'lana turns to Collan and asks, "Where is this other prisoner?"

Trax watched Niil stalk off before turning to the old man.

"Down the stairs and through the door." he said plainly.  ""And thankful or not what's done is done.  If you have any problems with it you can talk to her about it."

With that he made his way to the fallen guards to make sure they would stay dead.  And to collect the pikes, and the jedi's lightsaber.  He had no use for them personally, but someone might.

Collan wanted to sigh and slap everybody around. But...he was just happy to be alive at this point.

"What Trax said. I should also note she speculated you came here to die."

He looked with not little intent at the saber Trax was collecting. He wondered how it worked.

"Ch'lana...We should probably go as well. If you are up to it, I have some questions...mainly about my family. And...is that laser sword safe to handle?"

Ch'lana ignores Collan's statement and questions. But he does glance at Trax. "As long as it is not activated, it is safe enough."

The three of you then make your way to where you left the old woman. She looks more tired than when you left her.

Looking at Collan and Trax, she says, "Thank you both for your assistance. You have accomplished much this day, though I doubt you realize it fully. Trax, my strong young man, could I impose on you one more time? I am still too weak to stand. We will need to depart soon, before the Imperial ships arrive. May I join you on your ship?"

Ch'lana just looks at the old woman, his arms crosses. On his face, open curiosity and glowering are waging a war, but he says nothing.

[OOC: Niil will be a few minutes getting his blaster.]

Trax will need to drop the force pikes (4 of them) in order to carry the old lady.

Collan picked up the pikes for Trax.

Inscrutable...it was a word he'd heard once. Ch'lana seemed to embody it. Collan thought he'd have been happier to survive but clearly something else was going on. He wondered...the Knight would not like to air his inner life in public like this. Most likely.

Finally Collan asked, "Who are you, ma'am? We've not been fully introduced."

Trax let Collan take the pikes and he bent down to pick the woman up.

"Don't get too used to this." he said, his voice sounding serious enough but there was a note of humor in there as well.

Giving a nod to the woman he answered her question.

"Niil let him on the ship," Trax indicated the old man, "So I figure he can't complain if I let you on."

She holds up a hand weakly. When you take it, her skin feels like parchment, and her hand is so brittle you worry you might crush it.

"I am Demaia Rhysode."

[OOC: The name doesn't ring any bells.]

Feeling her hand Trax knelt down even lower and gently place her arm around his neck.  Sliding one arm under her and the other around her just above her waist he gently cradled her as he stood up.

[OOC: Trax doesn't have any questions or comments, he'll just play shuttle service right now.  If anything comes up I'll post.

Sorry, I thought the hand was held out to Trax.  Never mind.]

"I am pleased to meet you." She looks at Trax, and accepts help. She is still too weak to walk on her own, even with assistance, so Trax ends up carrying her again.

Niil catches up with you about the time you reach your team. Corporal Thadric reports that the surviving Imperials have been no trouble.

Even if you leave the Imperials here, you have two badly wounded troopers to carry, and Rhaekoth's body as well, unless you wish to leave it behind.

While your troops get ready to move and get the wounded mobile, Demaia looks at Ch'lana. "Young man, don't you think it is time you disarm the bomb you are carrying?"

A look of surprise flashes across Ch'lana's face, but it vanishes quickly. Sloely he reaches inside his tunic and pulls out a large, armed, thermal detonator. The device has some sort of attachment you do not recognize. It looks hand made. Ch'lana thumbs in a quick code on the detonator, and it switches from armed to disarmed.

The size of the charge he holds in his hands would vaporize an area about a hundred feet in diameter.

Collan was alarmed at the presence of that amount of explosives near them...and armed. But...that also explained how Ch'lana expected to die.

At the same time, he was focused on getting wounded ready to move. Two mortally wounded soldiers needed in depth care in a medbay...much more than he could provide on site.

"We need to bring Rhaekoth's body with us...and we should scavenge as much materi?l as possible, especially the armor. It might prove useful some time."

Trax fought hard to suppress a smile.  He liked the old woman.  Then it suddenly dawned on him.  Was she routing around in his head as well?  Thinking about it for a few moments he decided that if she was, there was likely nothing of importance or interest to find.

He then turned his attention to the rest of the scene around him.

"Collan's right, no one gets left behind.

Collan, see if you can tie those pikes together and make a sling for them so they don't take up any hands.  You can throw them over my shoulder if it works.

For everything else, focus on their blasters first.  As useful as the armor might be at some point, the blasters will be useful at every point."

Trax turned to Thadric.

"Any luck getting the comms up?"

[OOC: And don't forget about Geneva.  Or is she up and moving on her own already?]

Niil managed to suppress a laugh at the look on Ch'lana's face when  - what was her name? - Demaia queried him about the bomb he was carrying.  Yes, this day was just swarming with Jedi, wasn't it?  Speaking of Jedi . . .

"Master Ch'lana, do you know if there's a landing bay nearby where we can safely dock our shuttle?  We've got some badly wounded people here, and I'd rather not take them through that crawl-space we came here through if we can help it."

Collan nodded. He wanted to get out of here with the team and get Geneva and the others to a real medbay for some treatment.

"Demaia...do mind if I check your vitals and check you out? The cellblock was sub-lifesustaining."

She nods to Collan, indicating her acquiescence. As Collan goes to work, she closes her eyes.

Several seconds later, she opens them, and looks at Connor.

"There is an escape hatch not far down the passage, but it has been trapped with explosive. You will need to disarm the explosives in order to dock safely. Unless you have someone with demolitions experience, your safest route would be through the crawlspace."

"Okay, so we have something of small problem then.  Getting back up through the hatch would be difficult enough without carrying wounded personnel, the easiest way to get out is rigged to blow and our slicer is down for the count.

The original strike team got on board just fine, can we make our way to them?"

"Get the wounded up through there?  That'll be a neat trick."

To Demaia, he said, "When we get back to our ship, you need to get treated for malnourishment. Your body has been too long without food."

Thinking a little bit more, he added, "So...how do you learn to do that? I..." he trailed, not sure how much to give away, but he'd already said my name, "I'm pretty sure that I can feel the Force. It...well...I feel like I can use it a little bit...and...I have some vague memories that I was being trained it."

Collan looked to Ch'lana...

"To Trax's point...are you able to...you know...move things with your mind too...maybe a little more gently..."
Title: Re: Mission #15 - Prison Break, Part II

Ch'lana shakes his head. "Small things, maybe. not a stretcher with a body on it."

Demaia says, "If you get people up there, I can carry the stretchers to them."

A couple of minutes later, half your team is up in the crawlspace. Demaia closes her eyes, and one by one the stretchers lift off the ground and float up to the blown hatch.

[OOC: Pausing here for reactions, if any. We're done here, I'm good to warp to the wrap up - unless there is something else you guys wish to do here. Once you're on the shuttle, you'll have comms back.]

Trax watched the scene unfold with a mix of emotions and thoughts.  It was fascinating, amusing, and also terrifying.  With everything that he'd seen today, that there were those in the galaxy that had such power was truly a worrisome thought.  But he kept those thoughts to himself.

"You're pretty handy to have around." he said with a bit of a smile.

You make your way back to the shuttle, and establish contact with Jex. The lieutenant orders you back to the corvette. Several transports the KDF pre-positioned in the system load up the liberated prisoners, and the small flotilla jumps out for Karvis.

In the medical bay, Trax finds there isn't much room. It has been overloaded with casualties, and he is pressed into work as a corpsman, helping out what few medical staff you have. Collan as well is pressed into service. You are all kept very busy, and before you know it, the ships touch down in the deep desert of norther Karvis and you haven't had a chance to talk at all.

The young girl Trax very nearly killed is still unconscious for the return trip, but the medical facilities in the KDF base are a little better than on the corvette, and there is a full medical team with a doctor there.

The prisoners are kept segregated for now-  there might be some homicidal maniacs among them, after all - and KDF personnel are working through processing them all.

Ch'lana, Niil and Demaia end up in the medical bay, and behind closed doors.
