Title: Interlude - Questions and Answers
Post by: Trax on April 01, 2014, 09:26:28 AM
I wanted to ask before posting anything IC, but is Trax aware that Niil and Collan are force sensitive?  For Niil he likely would have put the pieces together from everything he's seen from him personally and the fact that there was a significant bounty on his head.  Though he might have made comments here and there as well.  And I think Collan has commented once about how he can 'feel' things.

Yeah, they talk about feelings and such. Up to you if Trax made the leap from "Feelings" to Force Sensitive.

I'm gonna wait until everyone's done.  I have a personal request to ask of Mrs. Jedi.  And possibly Ch'lana, if he's still around.

So there's a skill to resist force powers?  I'm guessing it's probably Perception based?

Yes.

No Force training for you! Damn...I was hoping to learn Control for Concentration. That power is do damned useful.

And is the skill used Willpower?
Title: Re: Interlude - Questions and Answers
Post by: GM Craig on April 01, 2014, 12:46:18 PM
Willpower for resisting mental probing and control and the like. There are other skills that can be used to resist force powers. They're a lot less efficient that Jedi skills, so if you're going the Jedi route, you're better off putting points into Control.

But for a non-force-sensitive, there are techniques and skills that can boost force defence.

Yes. The idea was for Collan to go the Jedi route. So knowing how to get there in game would be helpful.

I'll post rules for it later.

I'll post rules for it later.

Can you clarify if that is for Trax or Collan?

Yes.

Will you in the next post state if your original comment about posting the rules was for ( select one):

A. Resistance Training
B. Force Training
C. Both a&B

Resistance Training. Force Training is well defined.

So, at the risk of sounding dense, was there something Collan and I were missing to get trained?  Something we're not doing, or should be doing?

Perhaps you should ask her.

I refer you to http://chronicles.altarka.org/index.php?topic=141.0 - specifically item #1.

To further clarify - the GM did not tell you "no." She told your character "no."

Oho, good point.  Okay, I shall ask once Collan's done speaking with Mrs. Jedi.

Well, she did give you the Jedi Code to work from . . .

Let's see . . . relax, be cool, don't let your emotions dictate your actions, don't live for yourself.  Peace is cool.

Be . . . mellow.   Yeahhhh.

(cue Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit").
Title: Re: Interlude - Questions and Answers
Post by: Collan on April 02, 2014, 02:08:01 PM
True...it's a starting point ... She gave Collan the Code. So he's got that. He can't even begin to set aside the family thing till he knows where he came from.
Title: Re: Interlude - Questions and Answers
Post by: Niil Spaar on April 02, 2014, 02:14:43 PM
Aha, maybe that's the first part of the process.  Maybe you have to start by letting go your feelings about the family issue.  I'm guessing that from a Jedi standpoint, it would be considered a distraction - as harsh as that may sound - and could be something that the Dark Side (or someone trained in the Dark Side) could use against you.
Title: Re: Interlude - Questions and Answers
Post by: Collan on April 02, 2014, 02:18:42 PM
Possibly. Unless and until, he finds some resolution (could the resolution is that he'll never know).

It'd also be nice for Collan just to know the family is out there and that he is who he thinks he is.

Ok, here's some direction.

[Aside: this may come off a little harsh. Don't take it personally.]

I'll metagame a little for you here, but I'm not going to spell it out for you. You'll have to figure it out on your own. There is no one right answer. And success isn't necessarily required.

She is testing you, except for this test you have to come up with the test and take it. You devise what that test is, and bring her the results. You will be graded on both the test itself, and the results you provide.

She wants you to convince her you can be serious and dedicated and are willing to make sacrifices. So do something that shows her you are serious, or that you understand this is a long-term commitment, or something like that. Bring her an item, or proof of some task or deed that shows her some of what she is looking for, and maybe she'll give you a chance. Convince someone to petition her on your behalf who has knowledge of these traits in you. She wants to be reassured you're not going to go Dark Side on her halfway through your training before she will even open the door on that path.

She's told you what she's looking for in a student. It is up to you to convince her you fit the bill.

By the way, (and this boat has already sailed so you missed it) a good first step would have been not giving up on the idea the moment she said no. In RotJ, when Yoda saw Luke, did he say, "Luke, my boy! I've been waiting for you, and I'm happy to train you! Let's get started!" No! He took some serious convincing by both Luke and Obi-wan before he finally agreed. Neither of you made much of a case to convince her to train you, which brings into question your dedication (in her eyes).

Another example: you have both had access to a broken lightsabre for some time now that you could have used to put CP into lightsabr repair so you could learn how to make one of your own, but neither one of you took advantage of that. If you had one, you could have been working on lightsabre combat prior to meeting her, but you never explored it so it remained a missed opportunity.

There is a lot more to RP-ing a Jedi that simply buying Force Sensitivity and throwing CP's into force skills. You can play it that way, but that's not how I'll run it.

Bottom line (meta-game): if you want Jedi training, you are going to have to earn it.

I just needed a little direction ;)

Anyhow...did Collan know about the saber? It's been a while so I forget ;)

And I was going to ask Trax IG if I could borrow the one we got from the DJ?
Title: Re: Interlude - Questions and Answers
Post by: GM Craig on April 02, 2014, 02:34:12 PM
Yeah, I made an OOC post about it saying it was available as a resource.

There is another path to Force Skills, by the way: Find a darksider or a Grey Jedi to train you - rumour has it they have much more lax admission standards.

If you want her to train you, you know what you have to do. :)

Remember my survival guide - the world is your oyster. If you don't like one path, there are many others you can take.

Well, Niil does have more questions for her . . . although he's waiting outside the room so Collan can speak with her in private first.  He felt that Collan's questions about his past took precedence.

Post by: Collan on April 02, 2014, 02:46:51 PM
Oh...I'm not upset about Collan's path. It feels right for him actually. Recovering some memories is part of it.

And...Darren...Collan's going to want some lightsaber usage lessons while we figure out how these things work.

Heh . . .if you can find a training lightsaber, sure . . .
Title: Re: Interlude - Questions and Answers
Post by: Collan on April 02, 2014, 03:18:32 PM
Well...we'd have to use a real one :P

Or make a training one. Craig...can I update my sheet to include a pip in Lightsaber Repair? That's 4CPs unless Ch'lana is willing to show me a few things.
Title: Re: Interlude - Questions and Answers
Post by: Niil Spaar on April 02, 2014, 03:24:22 PM
Niil wouldn't show anyone how to use a full-power lightsaber - simply because he's as likely to cut off his own arm with one without some Force discipline backing him up.

Not really...it's a 16 to use and 5D practically guarantees at successfully failing ;)

She considers a moment. "I detected no presence of the Dark Side in it when Trax was nearby. It is probably safe."

Of course not.  It was overshadowed by the presence of the dark side in Trax.  >:D

Ack!  Damn me, that's the skill that was eluding me at the back of my mind when I submitted my skills request!  Is it still too late to get a pip in that?

Would building a training saber be a lower difficulty than a regular/full powered one?

Niil's got the damaged one so he and Collan should have a good idea of the parts required, which are listed in this older thread (http://karvis.altarka.org/index.php?topic=43.0), which also states Niil knows what crystal(s) he could use.

Niil and Collan might be able to convince Trax to let them have a look at the one he's got.  Using it as a guide might provide a bonus of some sort.  Just remember, with Trax, bribery works better than flattery, and extortion will get you killed. :)

Actually...I also want to up my Scholar Jedi specialization as well. Do a little research on Jedi meditation...is there a safe way to do that ?

And I'll bring Trax a nice box of grenades.

Heh . . . oh, that should be fun.  Niil working on a fully functional dark Jedi blade with a Mechanical level of 2D (2D+1 if I can get a pip in Lightsaber repair).

Niil:  "Hey Collan, I think I've got this figured out!  See, this is where the focusing chamber is!  Look at how the crystal is aligned, though . . ."

<. . . Niil accidentally nudges the crystal out of alignment . . .>

Collan:  "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

VOOOOORSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Three hundred meters away in the cavern complex, Trax looks up from his meal in the cantina as the floor shakes and a hot wind blows down the corridor.  Snorting and shaking his head, he returns to his meal . . .

We'll be fine as long as Niil doesn't say, "Here. Hold my beer."

At worst, we 'd be Blukich and Driba (Ben 10... Two boys in the house...I get to watch cartoons again!).

In case anyone has forgotten, you can learn force skills without a teacher. I had not permitted that before, but now that you have encountered a Jedi, that lock is removed.

You are free at this point to learn force skills and powers on your own. Costs will be double, but you can explore your abilities without a teacher.

Sure, at +50% cost.

2D to 2D+1 will cost you 3 CP.

Yeah, I can allow that. Non-trainer costs though, so double CP.
