More on Jedi Lore:
Most people (as in the vaaaaast majority) were fed a steady diet of anti-Jedi propaganda commencing with the purge. Public opinion about the Jedi is pretty low. The Separatist crisis that led to the birth of the Empire is seen as a Jedi failure. Emperor Palpatine was greatly admired when the Purge took place, but became reclusive after the "Great Betrayal" as the propaganda machine termed it. Most people believe that Emperor Palpatine does not even run the republic anymore, that the orders are given by corrupt advisers.
Some, like those of the KDF believe differently, and believe that the Emperor sits at the centre of an oppressive regime. But almost know one is going to know that he's a force user. Young kids will not even know what the Force is. It is certainly not common knowledge.
Tales are still told about what Jedi could do, that they were the guardians of peace and justice and all that, but the propaganda machine has been eroding even that. Telling someone you were a Jedi candidate or something like that is unlikely to make you any friends, and since the Empire has an open bounty for any information related to the Jedi in any way, will also likely earn you a visit from the friendly neighbourhood Stormtroopers.
This is just to paint a picture for you guys of the time period we are in. Even people who used to think the Jedi were the last bastion of peace in the galaxy wonder why the Jedi turned on the republic. The Imperial propaganda machine is nothing if not efficient and thorough.
