Trax - Prisoner Processing
« on: April 01, 2014, 12:44:52 PM »
Anyone not assigned to other specific tasks is put into prisoner processing. Thus Trax, not quite quick enough to avoid being spotted, gets nabbed on his way back from the meeting by Jexian, or Lieutenant Koneth as he styles himself now.

"Trax, we need a hand at prisoner processing. Go report to the sergeant there, and he'll put you to work." A moment later he adds, "Please."

Mildly amused, you head out into the cold desert near the base to the tent city the KDF has erected. The sergeant there is easy to spot. "Trax, can you give us a hand? Grab a datapad and start interviewing prisoners. We're trying to check out their stories. If you think they're clear, give them a pass and hand them off to one of the folks handling in-routine. if you don't think they're clean, note their file and send them back to the refugee camp. We'll take another look at them later."

He comes up to you, and says quietly, "I know it's not the kind fo work you signed on for, but if there are fighters in this bunch, we need them active quickly. You're probably one of the best to tell that, and I hear you can smell a rat a long way off."

Trax raised a questioning eyebrow.  Was that an attempt at flattery by the sergeant?

"Bribery works better with me than flattery." he said to the sergeant as he reached for a datapad.

"Let's go find our first victim."

[OOC: Oh good side mission!  Finally an opportunity to up Trax's con and intimidate skills.  Good thing I didn't ask to allocate those cps to melee combat and melee parry.

I don't know if it needs saying, but Trax is always armed, even on the base.  He feels uncomfortably exposed if he's not carrying his pistols and at least 1 knife.  The one exception to that rule is in Cali's home.]

The process is fairly routine. A string of political prisoners, grabbed for protesting and speaking out against the Emperor. Some were former military, most were just civilians. A few planetary government leaders. Nothing special, and you clear them. But then a grizzled man ends up before you. He carries himself like he knows how the world works. He's got some blaster scars visible, and a couple of knife wounds. You make him a veteran of combat.

"Name?" you ask.

"Wyrren Doha."

You go through the rest of the questionnaire. Turns out he is from Corellia. Halfway through the interview, he interrupts you.

"Listen, you look like a man who knows what's up in the world. You've fought the Empire, and you know deep down this planet doesn't stand a chance alone. You're never going to drive them off, all you'll do is bring more troops here to crush you. But there is a way towards victory. I've fought the Empire too. I work for Senator Garm Bel Iblis of Corellia. Resistance forces on Corellia, Alderaan and Chandrilla have joined forces to oppose the Emperor. You guys have done great work here, but you have to know in the end it is futile. But by combining your strength with others, we might actually stand a chance of deposing the Emperor. How about we quit wasting time, and you take me to folks in charge so I can talk to them."

Trax looked at the man, a mildly amused look on his face.  Taking a few seconds he turned his attention back to the datapad for a moment and entered in the information he'd provided about the senator and other resistance forces.

Looking back up at the man Trax leaned back in his chair.

"Okay Wyrren, can I call you Wyrren, I'll call you Wyrren.

Let me run a scenario by you.  You liberate over 2000 prisoners from an Imperial prison ship.  You have no idea the nature of the prisoners or their crimes, fabricated or otherwise.  One of them comes up to you and says, hey I can put you in contact with other people opposed to, and actively fighting the Empire.  I just need to talk face to face with the people in charge, so let's go see them right now and get the ball rolling on that.

What do you do?"

[OOC: Is con used for conning and detecting cons?  If so, can I get a con roll, 3D+2]

He nods. "I understand you point. But look at it from another point of view. In the 2000 prisoners, there's one guy that can help this minor rebellion really make a difference in the galaxy and overthrow the Emperor. Do you want to be the one who held him back? Lock me up, bind me, blind me. Make the call through a comlink. But let me talk to someone in charge. You know what the empire does. We can stop that from happening. Not just on... wherever this is. But everywhere."

"You didn't answer my question."

[OOC: Are the datapads uplinked to a central system?]

"I take them to my superior. Or at least put them on a comlink with someone who can verify their story. Or at least listen to what they have to say. I'm careful, sure. Make sure he's clean, scanned, and harmless. But I take the chance."

Trax gave the man a slight nod, looked at the datapad in his hand for a moment and then looked back up at him.

"Alright.  But then you know verifying stories takes time.  ID's are easy enough to fake and anyone can throw out the name of a public figure who's well known to be opposed to the Chancellor.  The best con contains half a truth.

So yeah, we're careful, we listen, and then we decide if you're worth taking a chance on.  That's why you and I are right here right now.  Which means the more you tell me now, the sooner we decide to send you home, or try to get in touch with your people.

Unless you've got anything more pressing you need to get to right now?"

He sighs. "I will answer your questions."

A few minutes later, you get a response to your query. Wyrren Doha is listed as a terrorist from Corellia. Formerly a member of CORSEC, according to newsnet stories, he was a terrorist leader that was arrested two months ago trying to sneak out of the system. The Empire is spinning the story that he is a heinous villain who murders at will, and that this capture brings peace to the people of Corellia, all thanks to the Empire. The list of crimes goes on for several pages. You find it difficult to believe one man could accomplish so much mayhem. Apparently the bounty on his head at one point was 300,000 credits.

"Okay then." Trax straightened up.

"Let's start with how you came to find yourself a guest aboard that ship."

He shakes his head. "I was betrayed. My team was supposed to smuggle the Senator to a meeting on Chandrilla, but we were set up. Fortunately, I got wind of it a few moments before we were attacked, and got the Senator safely away. Most of my squad was killed, but they wanted me alive. They figured they could use me to implicate the Senator in 'terrorist' activities and finally arrest him. I don't know who sold us out - some mid-level functionary I suppose. If it was anyone higher in the chain, they could have given proof we were working with the Senator."

Trax tapped away on the datapad as he listened to Wyrren.  He was looking to see if there were any stories about attacks on, or surrounding the Senator around the same time as the man was captured.  When Wyrren stopped Trax spoke up.

"It would have to have been someone who knew the Senator's travel plans.  Or your travel plans.  That list should be pretty small if they were secret."

Trax paused.

"The Imperials put out quite the story on you.  It's almost like reading about me.  But your publicist is a lot more...creative.  Guess I've got some work to do."  The spec paused again.

"Okay, here's the deal.  You want me to trust you, you're going to have to trust me.  I'll get my people to contact the Senator, but through public channels.  You give me any code words or phrases that he needs to hear to know the source is trusted.  We'll arrange for a more secure line of communication and go from there.  If you want, I'll make contact myself.

I can't make any promises, but I'll also see what I can do about having you present.  After you go through a full scan that is."

He nods. "Just so long as I know this won't end up buried in a thousand other refugee stories. But we have to be careful too - if the Emperor ever connects the Senator with an insurrection, his life, and the lives of other Senators, will be over." He then gives you a hyperlink code. "You can make contact here. This guy, a Sulustan, masquerades as a dealer in esoteric foods and beverages. Contact him, and ask about purchasing one Coruscant standard carat of Corellian Air Cake. He'll talk about tarrifs on the Hadrian Way trade route. Once you are both satisfied, arrange for a delivery or pickup somewhere convenient and that isn't under Imperial blockade. Remember this is all on an open connection, so choose your words carefully."

"It'll get done, even if it means doing the legwork myself."  Trax offered Wyrren a hand.

[OOC: Trax will type in all the information and if he can, mark Wyrren's file top/high priority.]
