Niil grinned.  "Excellent!  Until the morning then, sensei Nightshade."  Niil excused himself then, and whispered, "Ch'lana?  Might I have a few words in private?"

OOC:  Should we got back to the Scars & Healing thread for Nill and Ch'lana's talk?

Ch'lana glances at Niil. "Walk with me." He stops to bow to Nightshade before departing the room.

A few steps later he says, "What is on your mind?"

Niil gathered his thoughts for a few moments, then said with a faint grin, "Look . . . I hope you know I'm not intentionally trying to push your buttons, Ch'lana.  If I knew that you didn't like me calling you 'master', I would've stopped right away.  I guess it's just old habits from Alderaan and my short time with Master Dhoresh.  I just meant the honorific as a sign of respect."

Niil held up a hand.  "And I'm not trying to make this about me, either; I wasn't offended at all, just . . . well, concerned.  If that wasn't the real issue here, though, then you have my apologies.  Is this about your concern over the Dark Side trying to lay the whammy down on Collan and me because we're training with you?"  Niil opened his hands.  "The door can work both ways, sir.  If there's something any of us can do to help, then hell, by all means, ask or tell, and we'll do what we can.  We're all comrades, teachers and students, and hope you didn't get the impression that the only reason Collan and I came with you was to exploit you for your wisdom and knowledge.  And I'm not saying any of this to be condescending or come across as pitying; I'm being sincere here."

He walks in silence for several paces.

"My old master would say something like, 'You worry too much about what others think and feel.' I would have corrected you sooner, but the time was not right or I was in a different mood. Your misfortune I suppose to catch me in a bad mood and with time to correct you. Do not dwell on it overmuch. I chose to teach you. You are not plundering my wisdom." He pauses to sigh.

"I know my demons, Niil. I know the contours of their faces. They have been my constant companions for many years now. The stains on my soul are of my own creation. One day I may burden you with me sins. Until that day, leave well enough alone. Some things need time, and cannot be rushed."

Niil placed an hand on the older man's shoulder and shrugged.  "Consider it already forgotten, Ch'lana.  And I'll respect your wishes on the matter of your privacy.  Know, though, that that offer will always be open.  But I'll let you get back to what you were doing; I'll head off to the loading bay and get some more training in before I call it a night."
