Final (?) Good-byes
« on: May 01, 2016, 09:05:59 AM »
Collan took his time and waited. He and Trax were like oil and water or worse: sodium and water. She was still in Medbay when he found her. She appeared a little better so he went in to check on her.

"Hey," Collan called to her, "How are you feeling?"

"Hey," Nim replied back, turning from packing her bag. "Pretty good. The room stopped spinning, at least."

"Good," Collan said with a smile, "Hate to have a new comrade-in-arms start off deathly ill."

Collan didn't hem and haw about it the next bit, "Have you decided where you're going?"

"Still have the flu, I just haven't puked since you met Chuck."

She smirked a little." Sorry 'bout that. He's a little ornery."

"And what do you mean by "new" comrade? I'm fairly sure Horuz wasn't a picnic but then again I'm the one that spent two weeks in the tank."

In the tank kinda felt like a metaphor for prison. The thing might as well be.

"Fair point," Collan conceded, "We'd never gotten out of there without you."

Collan smiled, "And I've had worse on me. I take it you're for Dantooine then?"

Via Alderaan of course...with tall dark and angry but he didn't add that.

"Team effort," she replied simply to the first. "Dunno where I'm going yet. So many things in motion, ya know?"

OOC: honestly she probably knows by now but my convo with trax isn't resolved yet.

"I know," Colkan admitted, "My path was all too clear. At least for now."

"So...Trax...how bad was Corellia?" He finally asked.

She raised an eyebrow. Interesting conversation change..

"Corellia was a nightmare for everyone, not just Trax." Clearly Collan was poking. "Have you seen the stasis pod on the other ship?"

Collan nodded wordlessly. The pain in remembering was clear. Mariah had been his friend too.

"He changed...a lot. He's harder than I remember him," Collan said, "And more hostile."

Nim didn't feel it was her place to talk intimately about Trax but some things were already obvious.

"He still feels responsible for her death. But even if Mariah hadn't jumped the ship, she would have died in the crash. A lot of things went wrong at Corellia. If I hadn't gone back for Doha, it's highly likely not a single one of us would have left alive. Four of us are here today because of a split second decision based entirely on my own humanity.. however much is left in my dna."

Collan frowned, not sure what to make of her comment about her DNA. Was she trying to say something was wrong with her?

"That's both vague and perhaps selling yourself quite a bit short. You did everything you could didn't you? And if an Inquisitor was there, there wasn't much you were going to do to stop them."

Collan slumped a little. It hurt that Mariah was gone. It always would a little. She was just a kid still. Ch'lana was right about the pain he would find on the path of a Jedi.

Nim almost snorted. "Real subtle there. Nah man, an Inquisitor would have been a cake walk."

Collan blanched. Oh drek. He wasn't sure he said that outloud.

"Vader...." He whispered.

"Oh and three dozen veteran commandos dropped in too. Plus the hundred or so that were already setting up an ambush that killed our team. And the several squads that came in behind our ship that would have wiped out whatever the ambush missed."

"Yeah so.. Saving Doha was a miracle, so much he couldn't go the giant space ball with us. Rand was divine intervention, she still can't walk. The twi'lek and rodian had no chance in hell. Mariah.."

She paused for a moment, recalling the last image. Even the meds couldn't stop the tears from brimming. "She lived for all of five seconds in a state no one should ever see a kid in. The hat I gave her hides her demise and ultimately much of what we feel."

Collan felt shaky and had to find a seat. Black fringe appeared at the edges of his vision as he hyperventilated.

"No wonder..." Was all Collan could manage. He could easily envision the scene and it was not pretty.

"That any of you survived in nothing short of a miracle or the will of the Force."
