Kota shakes his head. "And did you even ask if you could take it?"

A faint trace of annoyance crept into Niil's thoughts, but he quickly slapped that down.  He has every right to question you, Niil.  Be patient and explain your decision.

"No, sir, although I had considered it.  That hostile tribe that Sibarra had told us about had followed us to the archive, and stayed around the area for as long as we were there.  We saw only as many of them as they allowed us to see, so it was difficult to say how many were there.  They must still honor certain Ysanna traditions, or else the vault would've been looted.  Still, I didn't know how the hostile tribe would've regarded any of the artifacts being gifted to us by our tribe's Elder.  Would they still see such items as holy artifacts?  Or would they now see them as personal property that could be taken by force?"

Niil shrugged.  "We thought it best to put the Noeticon back where we found it for the time being, and it was very well-hidden in a concealed room.  I suspect that Master Demaia hid it on Ossus since she was the last one to access it some thirty-seven years ago, unless she actually came to Ossus to use it.  It took Collan and I to weave a Force web that integrated Sláine's strong affinity with healing to find the Noeticon's particular aura and hiding place.  Sláine has a good connection to the Noeticon - who happens to be imprinted after Master Siobhan Oban, by the way - and she's currently carrying on her mother's unfinished work.  I've seen her notes; she's as meticulous and professional as her mother was, and very devoted to this task."

He cocks his head a moment then gives it a quick shake like he's trying to rattle something into place, mentally.

"Wait, Demaia took the Noeticon to Ossus? Demaia..." He does a double facepalm then, and scrubs his face before turning back to the two of you.

"So a powerful Jedi Seer braved the Cron Drift to carry the Noeticon to Ossus, likely because she saw the Noeticon would be recovered if it were there. You met a scholar with an affinity for the Noeticon, who was of the lineage of the Noeticon's creator, and, knowing all this, you still left them all on Ossus, without even trying to bring anything with you? Have I got this right?"

He holds up his hands. "No, don't answer that. I've heard enough. If you tell me any more, I'm going to have an aneurysm." He drops his hands to his sides. "I'll review your reports. In the meantime, go report to operations." He turns to go, but stops. He looks back at the two of you, shakes his head with a sigh.

"Boys, listen. Jedi are not passive observers of the Galaxy, simply taking notes of interesting things and leaving them undisturbed. Jedi take action, they influence events. Jedi change the flow, they do not simply allow themselves to be carried along with it. Meditate on that while you do your work. You are going to be very busy for the next month. If you ever hope to become Jedi, you need to understand that. Now get to operations."

He turns and stalks away, grumbling to himself.

Niil stood there until General Kota was well out of sight, and heaved out a monumental sigh.  Scrubbing at his own face in exasperation, he turned to Collan and help up his hands in a gesture of helplessness.  "Starting to get the feeling that we're malfing up on everything lately?  He's got a point.  We could have asked the Elder - hell, we should have asked the Elder if we could have taken the Noeticon with us, and we probably could've persuaded Sláine to come with us so that she could've continued to work on it."

He snatched at his gear and slung it over his shoulder.  "We didn't see how it all connected.  We malfed up, and we've got to rectify that."  With that, Niil started off toward operations.

Collan raised an eyebrow at the comment on being busy for the next month. But Kota was gone before he could even beginto defend himself and their choices.

“No. No I don’t,” he replied, “We made the best decision possible based on information at hand and our experience. If he wants to interpose his experience into the choice that’s his perogative. He’s demanding and experienced at this so perhaps he was correct. That said, I think he was ...is more of a Guardian than a Consular or Seer like Demaia. Guardians tended towards direct action while the Consular tended towards feeling their way through a situation.”

Collan sounded pretty certain.

“Slaine has less experience at the Force than we do. The disturbances around Ossus should help protect her while she learns. She is also the most qualified to use the Noeticon at this time. I stand by the decision to let her learn there at the time we made it.”

“That said...I wonder what the next month holds.”

Niil let his frustration seep off as he walked and talked with Collan.  "Hard to say.  Maybe something else we can be snarled at for doing wrong . . ."

Your days become long and difficult. There are a bunch of new recruits who spend several hours each day doing physical training. You are put in with them. Then, when the recruits are giving a few hours off to rest, you are put to work doing manual labour - physical labour like unloading supplies, reorganizing cargo bays, and the like - the sort of things droids would normally do. Then, you run a few patrols in starfighters or other training tasks. Near as you can figure, you are three times as busy as anyone else in the base, with the possible exception of the commander and the general. You see them both at all hours, so however hard you are working, it seems your senior leadership does not take breaks either.

As a result, your sleep cycles are much shorter. You are lucky if you get six hours a night, and you fall immediately to sleep when you hit the pillow. We week or two in, you've both become quite adept at cat naps, snatching a few moments of shut eye while waiting for instructors or during (brief) meal breaks. But the physical training is making you both lean and firming muscles you haven't used much recently.

[OOC: You have the opportunity to buy a stat pip in Strength at a future date, as well as pips in Climbing/Jumping, Lifting and Stamina.]
