I agree, I'm just saying that using the standard difficulty (if one is specialized) you're getting the +5 parry bonus for free and no other weapon/specialization gives you a free bonus.

The only reason I'm bringing this up is the ruling will apply to both sides and as the campaign moves on we'll be on the negative end of this likely more than the positive.

Is Jex planning on going double bladed vibroblade or double bladed lightsaber?  That's a lot of cp spent on vibroblade specialization out the window if he changes.

I'm proposing to add an offensive component, so that when you have both blades extended, you can either take a +5 on all parry rolls, or take a +5 on all attack rolls. Normal MAPs apply.

By the way, I'm okay with being able to use the bonus either offensively or defensively.  I assume this would be a round by round choice?

I'm totally NOT considering this rule because of a cool main character enemy you guys will be facing soon.  >:D

My issue is that by only giving a bonus to parry, you turn the double-bladed sabre into a defensive weapon. I dabbled in martial arts years ago (small 'd' dabbled) and hitting someone wielding a staff was hard, true. But it was also hard to defend against it.

How about giving a +5 bonus to all parries -or- a +5 bonus to one extra attack?

SO, you wield a double weapon, take an offensive stance. You attack twice (-1D MAP), but the first attack has a +5 on the roll (which basically cancels the MAP on that first roll).

-OR-

You wield a double-weapon, take a defensive stance. All parries get a +5 on the roll (which effectively cancels out on MAP).

I would be okay with a +5 to either parry or attack period. But you have to choose one for the entire round.

Ken and I were wondering if you could power an e-web with a lightsaber ... since we won't really be needing a lightsaber ...

The +5 to parry includes parrying blaster bolts.

Yeah, I want to shoulder mount an eweb (or two) and run it off a power source in place of my jetpack and run the targeting system through my helmet like the predator's shoulder canon  8)

E-web draws a lot more power than a lightsaber. :)

It takes a crew of three to set it up and run it.

Hell, go whole hog.  Set up a waldo unit on your armor for a turbolaser.

Mmmmm, BattleTech . . . well, just as long as it didn't involve that level 3 equipment crap (or was it level 4?).

So, back on topic.

Difficulty is 20 (25 if you don't have the double-bladed specialization).

+5 to all parry rolls -or- +5 to one attack roll, decided on a round-by-round basis.

OR

+5 to all parry rolls -or- +5 to all attack rolls, decided on a round-by-round basis

Option one basically gives you a free parry or free attack, but subsequent attacks become harder. Option 2 gives you a free parry or a free attack, and the difficulty of successive attacks goes up linearly.

Thoughts?

I'm leaning towards option 2.

And a reminder that this would apply to any double weapon, such as electrostaves, force pikes and the like, not just lightsabers.

Would be willing to consider the bonuses only applying when making at least 2 attacks so it lessens the MAPs but doesn't give any extra bonuses if you only make one attack?

Yes, the offensive bonus only applies when attacking twice. Otherwise, the parry bonus is in place.
