Trax: New Ally - Breaking Defences
« on: March 05, 2012, 01:12:56 PM »
The lift rises up, and in short order Trax is on the roof. The first thing that becomes obvious is there is a landing pad on the roof - that will come in handy when the time comes. The next is that there is a mostly destroyed frame of a shuttle there. It's obviously been blasted, and the power core exploded, scattering debris all over the roof, but the cockpit section is still intact on the far corner of the roof. There is also other evidence of combat.

As the troopers start to unload the E-web and get ready to set it up, Trax spots some movement out of the corner of his eye. Turning to look, he can't see anything, but there was definitely movement that he spotted through a large pile of debris.

Trax holstered his pistols and casually brought up his macrobinoculars, first checking their intended target before circling around, and making sure the debris pile ended up in his view.  Completing his 360 degree scan Trax lowered the macros and moved to insure his back was towards the debris pile.

"You guys can handle set up,"  he subtly pointed at his eyes followed by a thumb towards the pile he continued.  "I'm gonna have a look around."

He can clearly see the roof of the imperial facility. With the macro's, you can clearly see the gun crews and what look like observation droids stationed on the roof. You have clear shots to all four anti-personnel cannons, and the uplink is also clearly visible.

Doing a scan, Trax spots on a nearby building what appears to be an Imperial probe droid. It looks inert however, having clamped itself to the roof of the building. It's sensors are facing your intended target. Continuing the sweep, there is another probe droid in another nearby building, in a similar stationary configuration. Finally coming to the debris pile, Trax can make out through sightlines in the debris, the upper shell of a similar droid. Judging from the positions around the Imperial facility, the Empire has placed droids to watch the approaches to the base. The others were inert, but the movement you saw suggests you may have activated the droid on this building, but there is no indication it has seen you yet.

You droid is about a hundred meters away, on the far side of a debris pile.

Awe hell!  "Probe droid!  Get that thing set up now!" he barked at the troopers.

Trax activated his comm.  "We've got a probe droid up here.  I don't think it's seen us yet so get your asses to the shuttle so we can do this before we are spotted."

[OOC: Are the guns powered by packs that are visible?]

No, the guns apparently have either internal power supplies, or are wired into the building power.

The troopers put in the gas. They've got the gun hauled over to the edge of the building now.

Through the comlink, Niil whispers, ""Trax . . . just the one droid, or can you see others around?"

"Two others, inert, on other roof tops.  Ours is on the opposite side of a debris pile and I don't think it will take long to spot us and report."  Trax spoke into the comm as he moved over to the gun.

"Watch my back." he said to the troopers as he settled into the controls.  "If it doesn't spot us before I open up it'll be coming around pretty quick when I do."

On the comlink: "Shit.  Copy that, Trax.  I hope to hell those droids have a short transmitting range, or taking that comm tower down might be a moot point.  Spaar out."

The troopers are still connecting everything - they'll be a minute or so yet.

Trax whipped his rifle off his shoulder and knelt down to steady himself.  He peered through the scope and waited.

[OOC: If there's an opening for a shot on the droid before the the e-web is up I'll take 2 shots.]

Armed and ready, Trax watches for the droid. Then, he hears the sound of repulsors engaging from down in the parking lot. In response, there is movement from the direction of the droid, and in moments it has emerged from behind the debris pile, heading for the edge of the roof that overlooks the parking lot.

Your rifle coughs twice, the first shot winging the droid. The next shot hits it a little more solidly. The droid drops to the roof, and a moment later explodes.

One of the troopers taps your shoulder. "We're ready."

Trax just dropped his rifle and shoved his macro binoculars into the hands of the trooper that tapped his shoulder.  "See if we've drawn any attention from the compound or the droids on the other rooftops." he said as he quickly settled in behind the e-web and readied to fire.

[OOC: The plan at the moment is if it looks like we've drawn any attention to start unloading on the tower without taking the round to aim.  Use up to 2 CPs (I think I remember reading that's the max for a non specialized roll) if needed.]

[OOC: I missed mentioning it, but the explosion was much larger than expected. The droid probably had a self-destruct charge, and there's a fairly large smoke plume rising into the sky. I'm also presuming no open comlinks on your guys.]

The fire control system is just finishing booting when you get behind the controls. You're just aligning the sights when  on of the troopers calls out, "We've caught their attention! I see them powering up weapons!"

Another trooper says, "Those other droids are in-bound!"

[OOC: Two troopers are available for defence, but one of your troopers will need to monitor the power generator.]

"Try to keep those droids busy." Trax said as he lined up the comm tower and fired.

[OOC: 1 shot at the tower if I get an aiming bonus, 2 shots, using up to 2 CP for each if need be if I don't.  If the tower goes down on the first of the two shots switch targets to one of the gun crews.

How far away are those other 2 droids, and can the e-web swivel 360 degrees?]

A burst of high-energy plasma streaks out from the E-Web, striking the communications tower. A moment later, lightning starts dancing over the surface, but Trax isn't sure it's taken out, so the second burst follows the first. Trax is rewarded with a satisfying *crump* sound as a small explosion bursts out from the base of the tower. The mast starts to teeter over, slimming from the base a moment later to collapse onto the roof of the installation.

Three of the light repeaters open fire, but at the distance you are from them the shots have lost so much cohesion they are more of a nuisance than a threat.

One objective down.

In the comlink, Trax can hear Niil's voice saying, "Spaar here.  Trax is busy, I know.  I need a SITREP here."

One of the troopers tracking an incoming droid responds. "We've engaged the target, sir. The uplink is destroyed. We have three probe droids in-bound, but they'll be a few seconds before they're a threat."

More comlink traffic.

"Trax, Spaar here.  Need an aerial assist against the droids, or would we be getting in your field of fire?"
