Resist Force
« on: April 01, 2014, 01:37:10 PM »
Quote
Resist Force (PER): When facing an attack through the Force, a specially conditioned and trained individual may use this advanced skill in place of their perception to resist that attack. Any time a Force skill requires an opposed PER check, the character may instead roll their "Resist Force" skill. Multi-action penalties apply.

As an advanced skill, this skill must be trained, and training can only be given by a force-sensitive character who's Control, Perception and Sense dice all are at least 1D higher than the level the trainee is attempting to advance to. In addition, the Force-Sensitive trainer must have some offensive or manipulative force skill such as "Affect Mind" or "Injure Kill" for the trainee to resist.

This skill costs 4x the normal CP cost to advance.

Discussion?

It's meant to give those with the proper conditioning and training the ability to resist Force attacks without having to boost their PER score (which would be 10x the cost).

Like other advanced skills, is it 1 week training per cp spent?

Yes. This departs slightly from other advanced skills, since it is based on an attribute, in that it starts at your perception level.

Other advanced skills are independent of the attribute because they are based on a skill, such as Medicine being an offshoot of First Aid.

So for Trax, who's Perception is 3D it would take 12 cp and 12 weeks to get to 3D+1?  Might have to wait until Demaia is ready to come out of seclusion.  Command will wonder why Trax keeps turning down missions 'for personal reasons' while he trains with her in secret.

Are Maris' abilities high enough to be a trainer/teacher for Trax?

Are you requiring that we specialize in an area or are the skills similar enough that it is just a base skill?

For example if Maris is teaching us to resist Affect Mind, can we use the skill to resist Injure/Kill?

It's more general that that. She can teach someone who is not force sensitive to resist force powers generally - build op a resistance of sorts. It's not perfect, and it's not immunity. But it does raise the bar.
