Nim's datacard . . .
« on: May 11, 2016, 03:45:24 PM »
Niil had just finished his dinner, and had leaned back in his chair to relax.  Some interesting stuff in those boxes that Collan scanned today.  That circlet might come in handy for him, considering who his dad is.

Finding himself with some spare time, he decided to dig out the datacard that Nim had given them right before their departure.  She did say 'for the road', right?  Pulling out his datapad from his bag, he looked around first to see if anyone was nearby.  Seeing no one nearby, he plugged the datacard in and hit the "Play" button.

The datacard has a single file. When you open it, you find yourself reading an intel dossier about you. She's added some personal comments.

"Honey, I tripped like 20 triggers pulling this data up about you. The Empire has a big magnifying glass looking for you. Keep your head down. Oh, and you owe me a pack of cigarellos to replace the pack I stress-chain-smoked while wondering if a strike team was coming after me for just looking at this stuff..."

The data file gives details of your background, childhood, training - the time spent on Dantooine. Then there is a big gap - Nim included a note here: "The rest of this was locked up tighter than a Hutt's vault. Nothing - not a whisper. Everything else was behind really tight security."

Then, the record picks up. An anonymous contact of Nim's reports that someone was asking around in shady circles about Niil Spaar in relation to a thirty-thousand credit bounty - live capture only, anonymous client. This is not a guild bounty, and there's nothing official. Whoever put the bounty out wanted it kept quiet. Nim poked at that lead a little further and came up with a name.

Aurra Sing.

There is an attachment to the file that talks about Aurra. It seems Aurra Sing rose to prominence during the Jedi Purge as one of the few successful Jedi Hunters.

"Niil. This chick is bad news. White skin, implanted neural-interfaced comlink - you can see the antenna sticking out of her head. Aurra Sing is one of the most powerful and ruthless bounty hunters in the galaxy. She has no qualms, Niil. None. She made her living killing Jedi after the Clone Wars. If my network is right, she is on your trail."

Niil felt his body temperature drop a few degrees when he read over Aurra Sing's profile, and mentally reminded himself to buy Nim a hell of a lot more than a pack of cigarillos when and if he met her again.  Bad news, indeed.  Hell, if she was able to take down Jedi, what the frak am I going to be able to do against her?  And who put the bounty out on me?  Maybe the that hunter that Collan and I tangled with in the Blade Sea?  And it's not sanctioned by the guild, either. Yeah, Collan and Rahm definitely need to hear about this.

Niil swept up the datapad, and hit the ship's comm.  "Collan?  Niil here.  Can you meet me at General Kota's quarters ASAP?  I've got some bad news here."

Collan pinged him back.

"Yeah...on my way..."

Niil arrived at Rahm's quarters shortly before Collan, and he activated the door's comm.  "Sir?  It's Niil.  I, ahh, just discovered some disturbing news, and would appreciate your take on it if you have the time."  He hesitated, and added, "It involves someone named Aurra Sing."

"What?"

The door opens.

"Did you say Aurra Sing?"

Niil wordlessly waved Collan in ahead of him, and waited for the door to close.  "Yes sir, Aurra Sing.  Right before we left Kashyyk, Nim handed me a datacard, and told me it was 'for the road', as she put it.  I had no idea what it was at the time.  I just plugged it in to my datapad not too long ago, and, well . . . hold on a sec . . ."  Niil placed the datapad down on the table and hit the "play" button again so that Rahm and Collan could hear Nim's message.

Right after Nim's opening comment, Niil said, "The first part of the text and visual file contains details about my . . . well, quite a lot about me.  My childhood,  my early schooling and training, and my time at the Imperial Academy on Dantooine (OOC:  Or was it Mantooine?).  Nim wrote a note in here saying that everything from the Academy onward was, as she put it, '. . . locked up tighter than a Hutt's vault. Nothing - not a whisper. Everything else was behind really tight security.'  I suppose that part is about the Empire discovering that I was Force-sensitive, and about Master Dhoresh getting me out of the Academy before the Emperor's people came for me."

Niil sighed.  "The next part is about Aurra Sing.  Nim found out from one of her contacts that someone was asking around about me in regards to a thirty-thousand credit bounty put on me by an anonymous client.  Whoever the client is, they want me alive.  It's not a guild bounty, so whoever wants me doesn't want to advertise it.  Apparently a hunter accepted this contract - Aurra Sing.  Nim included a dossier on her, and it was enough to make me look over my shoulder.  Oh yeah, there is one last verbal part from Nim coming up in a few seconds here . . ."

Niil went quiet as Nim's voice came back.

The message ended, and Niil placed his hands on the desk.  "I take it that you know her, sir, or at least know of her.  I, ummm, could use some advice here.  If a Jedi hunter's coming after me, I sure as hell don't want to get you or Collan in the line of fire."

General Kota sits down heavily in a chair and strokes his beard for a few moments.

"Yeah, I know of her. After the betrayal by the clone troopers, she was the greatest cause of Jedi deaths during the purge."

He considers a moment longer. "But if it's a live capture contract, that gives you an advantage. Her standard kill was a sniper shot at extreme range. She did not like to get up close and personal - and the few times she did she had trouble. So the live capture forces her to avoid her strongest tactics." He nods to himself. "You should be safe enough once we have some of my militia around. They kept me safe for years from bounty hunters."

He is quiet again, and his brows crinkle. "I had thought he had given up hunting Jedi - signed on with some Hutt as a personal assassin. Something must have brought her out of retirement..."

He glances at Niil. "Nim Naja managed to get all this? How did she come by it then?"

Niil shrugged.  "She's an infochant, sir, and from what I've seen she's a damned good one.  I suspect that the reason she was digging around for info on me in the first place was because Trax asked her to.  I owe him a lot for this."

General Kota strokes his beard. "The senators should speak with her. Someone with the skills and contacts to get this kind of information would be a valuable asset to the rebellion."

Niil nodded.  "She would, indeed.  She is interested in aiding the Rebellion, sir.  However, Nim and Trax are, well, close, and it looks like she's decided to accompany him for the time being.  Trax wants to see what he can do about Pluvoo Two-For-One, and I believe he also wants to go to Karvis Three to see if he can do anything for the resistance there.  After that?"  Niil shrugged.  "I suppose the both of them have some decisions to make.  Both can be quite stubborn."

"Then we must leave her to make her choice as she wills."

He pauses. "Was there anything else, Niil?"

Niil shook his head.  "No, sir.  I just thought I'd apprise you of the potential threat."

He nods. "Then try not to focus on your anxieties. We will not be on Nar Shaddaa long enough to leave a trail. This will be a problem to deal with eventually, but we will be moving quickly for some time. We'll deal with it when we have to."

He looks at Collan. "You as well, Collan. Aurra is a marksman in the strictest sense, but she will not hesitate to cause collateral damage. Be mindful."
