Upgrading the Apparatus
« on: September 08, 2016, 12:28:38 PM »
Meeting the Royal Armourer was an experience. She is an Alderaanian woman who clearly loves her craft, but little else. After a quick sizing, she asks questions about what you are looking for.

[In general, there are two extremes.

High protection + low mobility, or light protection + high mobility. If she can get an idea where you sit on that scale, she can plan something. Also, if you want non-weapon add-ons, she can do that as well. Shielding is possible, but it burns out quickly if the unit is overloaded, so don't depend on it.

She can also build-in enhancements to skills. You can get 6 pips to apply to DEX, STR or PER based skills, to a maximum of +1D to any one skill, OR take a +1 to one of DEX, STR or PER attributes.]

I'd like to say I'm willing to give up mobility if the protection is high enough but Trax has always been light on his feet and the one time he tried heavy armor and relied on its protection he got hurt pretty bad. So let's go with as much protection as possible without giving up mobility.

Can you give me an idea of the types of non weapon addons that would be available?

For the pip increases, those would come as sensors etc?

Sensors, tracking and targeting, etc.

She can do grapples, for example. An integrated jetpack (adds weight). Weapons as well, provided they are non-lethal. A built in stunner, or an ion pistol integrated into a bracer, that sort of thing.

Would the stunner be sonic-based?  That could be useful against Dark-siders.

How about the following;

1. A similar grapple set up as Nightshade
2. Stun blaster of some sort, depending on damage it can produce.
3. What can I get for shields?
4. Some type of night or low light vision?

5. Stun Gauntlets
Model: Palandrix Personal Protection Gear Stun Gauntlets
Type: Hand-to-hand stun gauntlets
Skill: Brawling
Ammo: 10 charges
Cost: 300
Availability: 2
Difficulty: Easy
Damage: STR+2D stun
Source: Gundark’s Fantastic Technology (pages 12-13), Pirates & Privateers (page 43), Arms and Equipment Guide (page 31)

6. Not sure on which option would be more useful

A. Cloud Jumper
Type: Repulsorlift personal jump pack
Scale: Character
Skill: Repulsorlift operation
Cost: Not available for sale
Availability: 3, R
Game Notes: The pack is not a true rocket pack in the sense that the wearer can “fly”. Instead, the pack allows the wearer to make incredible leaps, over 200 meters at a time, from point to point. The pack can also be used to slow the descent of a person who is free-falling, allowing a soft landing in most cases.
Source: The DarkStryder Campaign – The Kathol Outback (page 77)

B. Arakyd Hush-About AJP-400
Scale: Character
Skill Jetpack
Cost: 1800
Availability: 3, F or R
Game notes: 10 charges, 200 ft vertical movement, 500ft horixontal movement, carrying capacity 300 kg, weight 15 kg.  Source, Galladinium’s Fantastic Technology (page 13)

For skill based increases I'm thinking, Search +2, Climbing/Jumping +2 and Lifting +2.  I'm on the fence about swapping one of those to add to my blaster skill.

OK, how about this:

Custom Armour
Type: Personal battle armor
Cost: Not available for sale
Availability: 4, X
Game Notes:
Armor: provides +2D to Strength for physical attacks, +1D for energy attacks, -1D to all DEX based skills and attribute checks.

Left Bracer: Grapple Launcher: Sytherope dispenser and grapple launcher, grants +3D to climbing rolls. Uses missile weapons skill.

Right Bracer: Stun Blaster:
   Damage 4D (Ion)
Ammo: 5 (can't be reloaded in combat)
   Range: 1-2/4/6

[Could boost it to 6D ion damage, but ammo drops to one shot.]

Helmet: Integrated macrobinoculars, comlink, night vision (+1D to Perception in darkness), environmental filter.

Belt: Personal energy shield generator: Provides +3D to resist energy damage. If damage exceeds the shield, the generator burns out and must be repaired.

Hands: She can't do stun gauntlets, but she can mount a stun knuckler in the gauntlets. STR+1D Ion, 5 charges each.

Back: Integrated Jet Pack: Has Move of 100 meters horizontally, 70 meters vertically. Uses jet pack operation skill, base difficulty is Easy. Has 10 charges, can expend
up to two per round. The advantage there is it is integrated. You can have an external jetpack, like the Arakyd one, if you prefer.

The skill boosts look fine.

What would I have to give up in order to remove the Dex penalty? Could the protections be flipped, 2D energy, 1D physical? If so how would that affect the Dex penalty?

For the shield, would the resist damage roll be done in 2 parts then, 1 roll for the shield and 1 roll vs what ever the shield didn't absorb assuming the damage exceeded the shield?

For the shield, if an energy hit roll exceeds the shield's roll, the shield is down. Whether it just needs recharge time, or it is blown and needs repair depends on how much the damage roll exceeded the shield's roll, similar to how a damage roll works.

You can drop the physical protection to reduce the dex penalty, but that's about it. This is going to be heavy armour.

I don't want to make myself easier to hit with only +1D vs energy so the physical protection will have to drop.

How much weight will the integrated jetpack be able to carry?

Okay.

Might change the boost from lifting to sneak.

Is there a wrist blasters skill or would that be a specialization of blasters?

Ion is more effective against droids right?

You use your blaster skill, but there is a specialization for wrist blaster.

Yes, very much so.

I will swap the lifting bonus to a sneak bonus.

Can the jetpack be made quieter than a standard one?

Hmm. Not without significantly increase the size and weight. They can swap in a bigger turbine to produce more lift with less noise, but it would about triple the size of the unit.
