Training
« on: September 21, 2015, 10:22:26 AM »
Ok, so here' the problem.

You guys are going to be trapped on a starship for many days with literally nothing to do but train. However, all of you have spent the bulk of all awarded CP's. So the game mechanics don't really support you guys taking advantage of the time.

To work around this, for story purposes, I propose allowing you to take an advance on CP's. You will then pay back that advance CP's from adventures moving forward. It will mean not having any CP's available for die rolls and the like until you repay the deficit. But it will let you guys develop Force skills and martial arts prior to the encounter in Horuz. Since you have plenty of time for practice and trainers readily available, I'll remove time restrictions for training. You'll have free, unrestricted access to most skills, subject to a GM veto.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

This is a one-time thing for story purposes. There will be caps on your advancement.

I'm good with it. Did you see my other suggestion via Hangouts?

Yeah, I'm not a fan of penalties in general, and I don't want you guys regiggering your character sheets. You have a history in your characters, and the skills you picked up along the way are part of that history. Jedi already suffer from a heavy bias towards "one tick pony" syndrome, I do not want to compound that.

Also keep in mind that Ch'lana is a knight, so his skills and powers are geared towards combat and survival. He's not going to be able to teach you the more esoteric powers like Farseeing, Accelerate Another's Healing, Transfer Force, etc.

He can cover Lightsabre Repair, and Lightsabre skills.

He can teach you combat-oriented powers like Lightsabre Combat, Control pain, Reduce Injury, Accelerate Healing, and Combat Sense. There's some overlap for the more "Sage-like" powers, so if it's not listed above and you want it, ask and I'll see if he has it.

I take it that we'll have to have the Sense skill as well to use the Lightsaber Combat properly?  I think Lightsaber Combat is a combo Control/Sense?

Would Ch'lana have Force of Will? It's been key for Nick's defenses.

Right now, I think I'd like Collan to train for:

3 Pips of Control (3CPs)

Sense Base Die (10 CPs)

3 Pips of Sense (3 CPs)

Brawling: Martial Arts pip (2CPs)

1 or 2 Pips in Lightsaber (3-6 CPs)

Total CPs: 21-24

Craig...is this reasonable?

3 Pips of Control (3CPs)
Sense Base Die (10 CPs)
Brawling: Martial Arts pip (2CPs)
2 Pips in Lightsaber (6 CPs)

Total: 21 CP

Is that basic Brawling: Martial Arts, or Advanced Martial Arts under the house rule?

Approved as edited.

You can request 3 Control powers and a Sense power, or 2 Control powers and a Control+Sense power.

Here's my wish list.  I still have 4 CP left over on my character sheet.

1D in Sense skill (10 CP)
3 pips in Control (3 CP)
3 pips in Sense skill (if allowed after I've just picked up the skill; 3 CP)
1 pip in Lightsaber (5 CP)
1 pip in Lightsaber Repair (3 CP, I think?)

I'll have a look at the Force powers once I get back home, but Lightsaber Combat's definitely one of them.

If you guys want to post some training stuff for some minor CP awards, go ahead. For Force-related stuff, I can post a lead-in if you want.

You can get 2 control powers and a C+S power, or 3 control power and a sense power.

Can you explain?

I'm earning 3 pips in Control and the first Die of sense...that's normally four powers.

I believe in the RAW, to gain a cross-skill power for free, you need to bump up all powers that the skill is dependant on.

I was pretty sure the RAW says it the power learned as part of the Force Skill training only has to use a power taught. I checked (page 141) and the power taught as part of training must use the skill taught (in whole or part seemed to be strongly implied). The follow up in the text is that a Jedi learning Control could not learn a power based solely on Alter.
