Niil eyed the control panel.  "Only problem with that is that the power surge could be detected and localized.  And if have any troopers near where we're getting out, we'd be womp rats in a cage.  But we're also running against the clock here . . ."  Looking at Nim and Demaria, he said, "Can either or both of you work with Collan and get this lift active?  Or do all of you feel more comfortable with a climb?"

"Since we took the obvious route, they likely already know where we are. And they probably expect us to climb. But if they were smart they'd prepare and probably rig a surprise for both."

Niil shrugged with a faint grin.  "Yeah, there is that as well.  I just didn't like the idea of climbing down a turbolift shaft and having a pack of troopers opening fire on us while we were on the maintenance ladder.  We got into a furball like that before, and we were blasted lucky that none of us ended up as flat-cakes at the bottom.  The good thing about Demaria's idea is if she can jury-rig the emergency lighting power supply to run the turbolift, it will bypass the lift's usual power source - and sensors.  She's pretty sharp."

Keshani's eyes narrowed a little at the Jedi's offer. Jedi were evil. They played games with your mind and didn't care about you enough to worry about the results.

But she didn't know if she was strong enough right now to lower herself down. She could recognize in herself just how badly of her body was by this point. But could she trust the Jedi? Well, at least enough to not kill her? Her body started literally trembling all over as she fought to convince herself to trust the Jedi enough to do this.

"Ok". Was all she said, although it was in a very unconvincing coice

Ch'lana slowly offers a hand, and Demaria takes it. He looks her in the eye. "You can trust that I will not let you fall." He points to his eyes. "Do not look away." Demaria, looking into those eyes, senses only quite reassurance, and she believes him. He half closes his eyes and takes a breath.

Demaria feels herself gently lift off the deck. Using their shared grasp to guide her, the Jedi slowly moves her out over the open space in the lift shaft. Instead of feeling panic or fear, somehow she feels calm. She begins to slowly lower into the shaft, and a moment later their grasp parts. Eyes stay locked, however, as the distance between them grows.

It must have been a minute or two, but before she realizes it, her feet touch something. Looking down, she sees she is on top of the turbolift. The pressure holding her up releases gently, and she is free to move. It is a simple matter to open the access hatch and drop inside.

Meanwhile, using Concentration, Collan manages to trace the emergency lights to a central power generator. It is easy enough to pull it out even with the simple tools available, and he lugs it over to Ch'lana just as he releases Demaria. He nods to Collan, and repeats the process with the power generator.

By this time, Demaia has the floor maintenance panel open, and has exposed the leads she needs to control the coils. As she finishes, the power generator lowers gently through the open access hatch, gently pinging off the edge where it made contact. It settles onto the floor.

It's all on her now.

[Actions?]

PM sent to Keshani.

The DC is somewhere between DC 15 and 25 to jury-rig the repulsor coils. She's never done this sort of thing before, so she's not entirely sure how hard it will be.

Collan turned to Niil, "Think she'll be okay down there?"

Niil shrugged.  "I'm going to go down there to make sure. Collan, did you grab one of the trooper's belts?  It should have a syntherope coil on it."

Ch'lana holds up a hand to forestall Niil. "She is a very independent young girl who has been on her own since she was five years old. Offer help, or let her ask for it. Do not assume she needs it."

Niil shook his head.  "Very headstrong, indeed.  But it wasn't just for assisting with the power hook-up.  I was concerned if troopers or a security droid spotted her.  But I see your point."

"You're still alive." Trax muttered under his breath in response to Ch'lana and he began to pace back and forth, getting more and more wound up with each step.  Niil's comment about troopers or a droid possibly spotting Demaria in the lift caused him to whirl around and glare at the man.  Another target for his anger.

"If you were concerned she'd come under fire why the hell didn't you go down first?"

With the power out Nim kind of felt powerless to do much. She turned to the droid hovering behind her. "Buzz, can you scan for lifeforms for us please?"

OOC: I dunno if the sensors could include other droids but I'd try that separately too.

"You can trust that I will not let you fall"

Keshani was still trembling as she hesitantly took the Jedi's hand. She felt caught behind the proverbial rock and a hard place. If she refused the Jedi's help and she fell she would possibly be killed. Or worse she might possibly let these people down. And as much as she tried to convince herself that she didn't care about anyone other than herself she knew very deep down in her mind that it wasn't true.

Accepting the Jedi's help, however, was one of the hardest things that she had ever remembered doing. Because it was a conscious choice on her part to do. No one was forcing her. No one was pressuring her. It was completely her choice.

But as she took the Jedi's hand a strange sense of calm like one she had never felt before washed over her. It would be okay. Everything would be ok. It was a feeling similar to stepping into a warm pool on a cool day and suddenly feeling every muscle in your body relax. Not that she had had many opportunities in her life to experience that...

All of her fear, her anxiety, her anger and apprehension that was pent up inside of her over the last few months, hell the last few years, seemed to bleed away like someone had gently punctured her and it all was escaping slowly through the puncture hole.

As she slowly floated down to the lift car she let out a soft sigh. She felt...in control...for the first time in a long while.

As her feet touched the top of the lift and the pressure holding her up gently released her mind turned back to the task at hand. With the new sense of control the teenage slave felt came a clarity of mind. She could do this. She WOULD do this. Because she had to. She told them that she could.

Popping open the floor maintenance panel she exposed the leads to control the coils. As she was finishing with that the power generator was being lowered down and she reached over to grab it.

She took a slow breath in and let it out. She could do this, she reminded herself. And with a feeling of rare confidence and calm the teenage slave got to work

<Actions: McGyver the lift. maximum of 2 cps (i think...)>

It only takes a couple of minutes. Those watching from above note several flashes of light as if from sparks. Then, a creaking groan as the lift starts rising. The woosh of air grows louder as you realize the lift is coming with a great deal of speed. Leaping back, the lift shoots past, slowing to a stop several decks above you. Then, it goes into freefall, whooshing past the open doorway. However, she seems to get getting the hang of it, and the lift rises again, stopping with the deck of the lift about a meter above the level of the floor you stand on. Demaria sits there in the middle of the lift, legs splayed wide. Her feet are controlling two of the three emergency brakes, one hand is running the power generator, and the other is tuning the repulsor coil. Several wires run through her clenched teeth - you're not sure what those are for, but they run between the power generator and something under the access panel.

The inside of the lift looks like a tornado blew through here, with panels open and wiring and gears exposed.

"Geg imm! Nob ab eaby ab ip wooks!" she yells through the mouthful of wires.

Nim had to cover her mouth with her hands to keep from howling in laughter to the whole station. "That is brilliant!"

Ooc: She'll wait for a boost. Did buzz pick up anything?

Not wasting any time Trax moved beside the lift and offered Nim a helping hand to get in, after which he hopped into the lift himself.
