"Yeah...", she replied. There was clearly something left unsaid, but without Nim's powers of reading people it was hard for Trax to know what, if he picked up on it at all.
Kesh felt torn. She felt drawn to Trax for some reason. She thought she might be happy hanging out with him for a while. But she was also afraid.
First, she wasn't sure if he was still disappointed in the fact that she had tried to take her own life back on the station. Second, she was still afraid that when he finally realized that she wasn't this Mariah girl that they kept all talking about that he would be done with her and she'd be out on her own again.
And she was afraid of being hurt. She didn't want to like this man. She didn't want to like ANY of them, and then get pushed aside and left on her own. She didn't think she could handle that.
So was it better to just take Maris at her offer and stay on her own now? Limit the possibility of repercussions later?
But feeling welcome and maybe even accepted by the group during the time on the station had almost been addicting in itself. Having felt that she wasn't sure she would be content on her own again.....
"I guess you've got stuff to do on your own then..." she commented, trying her best not to let her feeling of disappointment show in her expression or her voice...
