Collan and Niil: Assignment Ossus
« on: December 12, 2016, 12:39:29 PM »
Commander Jann (a human female), assigns two of you to quarters, and puts you to work. It's a lot of hard physical labour, humping crates around and moving equipment. You also get some time in a two-seat Y-wing flying patrols where the pilots run you through basics in piloting, gunnery, sensors and navigation.

You've been very busy for 12 hours since reporting in, and haven't even had time to unpack your kit. You are just climbing out of the jump seat in a Y-wing when you get called to the docking bay. You are met by a young male human lieutenant. "You've been given a mission. You'll get a briefing on the way." He points to a Zabrak lounging against the side of the shuttle. "This is Ensign Navara. He's your pilot."

Without waiting for you, the Lieutenant turns and walks away.

Navara gets up from leaning on the hull and looks each of you over in turn before spitting to the side. He has dark brown skin and several black horns protruding from his scalp. His eyes are brown.

"I'll be done my pre-flight checks in 15 minutes. Then I launch. My orders are to fly to Ossus and back, so that's what I do. It's actually better for me if you are not on board when I launch, so take your time." He then turns on his heel and walks up the boarding ramp.

You note there are packing crates on the deck beside the boarding ramp, apparently intended to come with you.

Yeah, this must be the pilot with the attitude, Niil thought bemusedly.  Must run in their blood.   Nudging Collan, he muttered, "Let's get this stuff squared away and secured.  If what the general said is true, this guy's gonna give us a lunch-tosser flight."

Collan gestured from his waist to chest. He was still in his flight gear.

"We need our kits," he said taking off in a run towards his quarters. Blaster, power packs. Armor. Kit out. Clothes. Saberstaff. The works basically.

Niil looked at his own flight suit, and blew out a self-exasperated breath.  "Right behind you," he called out.

OOC:  Crap, forgot about that . . .  ::)  Yup, also grabbing clothes, blast vest, gun belt, Imperial blaster rifle and macro-binoculars.  If he sees Collan snagging the saberstaff, he'd advise him against taking it with us.

Fortunately, you guys did not have time to even unpack, so everything you own is already packed up. Easy enough to grab your kit and race back (under load) to the docking bay. You make it back there in about 6 minutes. Getting your still gear stowed takes another two minutes. You have 7 minutes to spare.

(OOC:  Collan and I have a still?  Hot damn!  ;D)

Suspecting that most of the crates had some decent weight to them, Niil sidled over to the left side of the crate queue and went up to the one closest to the ramp.  "You grab the right side, and I'll grab the left?"

Collan's stamina held up a quite a bit. He was only sweating a little when he got back and his gear stored. Otherwise, he was not winded at all. He went to Niil and grabbed the other side as indicated.

"Yeah...let's give this the old heavy ho and get it stowed."

The crates are heavy and cumbersome, but you get them stowed. You manage to get yourselves strapped in, still wearing your flight suits, as the pilot closes the door and lifts off.

The shuttle is a small personnel transport with a small cargo capacity. It is basically a cramped cockpit bolted on to a hyperdrive. There are two sleeper bunks, a tiny fresher and not much else.

"Bottom bunk is mine," says Navara in a tone that brooks no disagreement. You barely clear the asteroid docking bay when he points the ship up and activates the hyperdrive. A wave of vertigo overwhelms you - it can be dangerous activating a hyperdrive so close to a mass shadow - but when you come to your senses, neither of you soiled yourselves.

Niil let out the breath he'd inadvertently held rather explosively, then grinned.  Damn, I know he's a Zabrak, but I swear he must be related to Jenny Zyback.  They're both nuts.  Niil grabbed his gear and began to check it over meticulously.  Navarra would be giving them the skinny on the mission soon enough.

Collan shook his head and burped. A little phlegm came up with it and he shuddered from the foul tasting stomach muck.

"Ensign, how's the flight looking for us to switch out of our flight gear?" He asked cordially.

His only response is a shrug.

It's very tight quarters - you're either going to have to take turns, or take off the flight suit while seated.

[ooc: consular ship to Galan's ship to this rust bucket...]

Collan started to shrug out of the flight suit. He'd feel better once out of it and in real clothes again. Flying in a fighter had been illuminating. The cramped space. Bad-ish comms. Limited movement. Anything you moved could set off something so you had to be hyper-aware of your immediate surroundings. This shuttle was less cramped than that but had even less space than Galen's ship.

"I can sleep on the floor Niil. My back's been better for a while and quite frankly, I've slept on worse."

Niil snorted as he snapped fresh power packs into his blasters.  "Ha, that makes two of us!  Tell you what . . . depending on how long we're gonna be in transit, we'll alternate day-by-day."  Niil started examining his other gear, waiting for Collan to finish changing his clothing before he did the same.

"Sounds good to me," Collan replied, "So you know what Ossus is right?"

[ooc: Craig, assuming 4D+1 in Scholar Jedi would give Collan the needed info...It was once the main temple of the Jedi Order]

[Jedi Lore] It was, according to legend, the site of the Great Jedi Library in ages past.
