Collan tood Niil what he remembered in addition to the data on the pad. He then scoured it for any information on the team sent there. It was highly unlikely to have anything, but it was worth checking.

[ooc: looking for team info, maps, any speculation]

Niil was fascinated.  "Has the Empire forgotten about this planet?  If this information is in the database, then wouldn't Palpatine be concerned about them being Force-sensitive?  Hell, according to this report, some of them have Force powers."

The datapad has little else. The team consisted of 5 Jedi archaeologists, 15 support staff and 10 security personnel. No names are provided - it's likely Kota drew this up from memory.

Collan mused on this.

"Hostile world. Primitive people. The Emperor would have the Jedi Archives on hand. He knows about the world almost certainly but if I recall rightly, most of what survived the cataclysm was taken to the Temple on Coruscant and became the Archives there. There literally may not be anything left there after 4000 years."

"It looks like our mission is a recovery operation. Find out what happened to mission. Recover any information they found. If...and it's a big if, there are any survivors, offer rescue if they want it.

Niil nodded.  "So the million-credit question is whether or not we approach the locals first and tell them why we're there.  If we meet them, I'd rather be straight up and honest with them as to why we're there instead of trying to sneak into the ruins without them noticing.  If they caught us doing that, there'd be zero trust.  Assuming they didn't kill us outright for the attempt."

Collan sat back, "We should brief Sunshine. A primitive world won't have a lot of tech or modern metallurgy apparent. We scan for durasteel or other modern materials or power sources. That should find us the camp quickly. But it's his ship; his rules."

Navara speaks up from the cockpit. "Not that I care - I don't - but you may not want to plan too far ahead. If my calculations are correct, Ossus is just inside the Cron Drift. The Cron Drift makes the Kessel Run look like a cake walk. We are far more likely to get atomized than we are getting eaten by primitives or whatever."

"Ensign, I have supreme confidence in your abilities but if you would like some help. I'm happy to do so. The General gave us this assignment because we have some training in the Jedi Arts. I can guide us through the drift using the Force," Collan said.

He turns and glares at Collan for like 5 seconds without saying anything. Then he slowly turns back.

Collan smiled at Niil.

"All right...let's see how we're kitted out."

The look that Navarra gave Collan had Niil hastily cover his mouth with a free hand.  When he regained his composure enough to speak without laughing, he muttered in a low voice, "You're certain of that?  The reason the general sent us, and your ability to get us through the drift?"

[OOC: Background - Ossus is a wasteland. The planet is wracked by electrical storms, and toxic, corrosive rain. Violent dust storms are frequent phenomenon. The Jedi team had been set up in the Eocho Mountains far south of the equator. Within the western mountains was the site of the former Great Archive, and the ancient city of Knossa. The planet is mostly lifeless, but some indigenous species were able to adapt to the toxic conditions.

In the second crate are an enviro tent, hazardous environment suits, two moisture vaporators, a power generator, various maintenance tools, climbing gear, and a combined particle-energy shield to protect your camp from the toxic rains and electrical storms and wildlife, a sensor suite, short-range scanner, and holorecorder.]

The trip is tense. The food in the ship's stores, according to Navara, is for him. Fortunately, there are military rations in the second crate. Navara quickly adopts the habit of playing riks, an exceptionally harsh sort of screeching music popular among rebellious youth in some parts of the galaxy. You quickly learn that he prefers to ignore and be ignored.

After five days, the increasingly tiny shuttle pops out of hyperspace. Navarra turns to you. "Ok. Strap yourselves in, this is going to be a rough 24 hours. And keep your waste re-processor canisters handy." With that, he re-engages the hyperdrive, and you enter the Cron Drift.

At first, there doesn't seem to be anything abnormal with the trip. Then you notice approaching mass shadows - ugly purple bruises on the background of Hyperspace. Just a few, at first. But within an hour, Navarra is constantly jinking and twisting the ship. At first, Collan tries to use the Force to keep track of dangers, but in short order they are coming far too quickly for his senses to keep track, and everything registers and one giant threat.

By hour five, both of you hav emptied your gust into the canisters.

It's not just the jinking and twisting - every time the shuttle passes close to a mass shadow, you can feel it like a twisting of reality. Vertigo, cold sweats, nausea, without stop.

Hours start to pass like days. Both of you have long sense emptied your stomachs, and are dealing with dry heaves. In desperation, you start drinking water just so you'll have something in your stomachs to purge when another wave of nausea hits you. Attempts to control to Force are hopeless - the barrage of sensations are too quick and too intense. From what little you know about hyperdrive technology, Navara must be skirting the very edge of acceptable conditions, otherwise the safeties would kick in and automatically shut down the hyperdrive. Eventually, you both come to the conclusion that Navara is doing this on purpose - coming closer to the mass shadows that he needs to, intentionally making the ride worse. At length, you are both ready to die.

Then, somehow, it all stops. The jinking, the turbulence, it's all gone. When your streaming eyes clear after one final heave from each of you, you find yourself in real space. Ahead of you, a binary star system floats in a system filled with debris.

Navarra takes a deep breath. "We're stopping here for a couple of hours. I need a nap." You both notice the pallor of his skin - perhaps he was not doing all this intentionally after all.

Too weak to even move, the two of you fall asleep where you are sitting.

Some time later, you are woken up by a shudder. The binary stars are gone, and you are staring at a rapidly approaching planet. The whole planet has an ugly orange-brown colour, and perhaps a dozen violent electrical storms are clearly visible. There are other storms too - ones with sickly-looking green and purple clouds that look very unhealthy.

Navara manages to pick a path between a pair of electrical storms, and heads to the southern end of the continent. You see in the distance a huge range of mountains stretching from horizon to horizon. The flight is very turbulent, even outside of the storms, indicating strong winds.

Collan never wanted to do that again. However he knew he would if he wanted to leave Ossus. The Drift must has have required the Perlimian Run be rerouted as he was fairly sure Ossus had been right on it 4000 years ago.

And now...they were here. A relic of the ancient Jedi lay before them.

Weakly, Collan asked the Ensign, "All right, do you prefer to stay on the ship?"
